About
Privacy and removal
What TornLife keeps, what it never keeps, and how anyone can have something about them hidden.
Game data is public; real-world data is not
Player names, IDs, profile links, faction names, stats and forum mentions are public Torn game data, and TornLife shows and links them. What TornLife never collects or shows is real-world identifying information: real names, email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, workplaces, payment details, IP addresses, passwords or keys, and off-site account details. When a forum post contains any of these, TornLife masks that part on the page and keeps the post otherwise as written.
What TornLife stores about visitors
- Page views are counted per page and per hour, with no IP address, no cookie and no identifier. The counter runs only if your browser runs JavaScript and keeps the page open for a few seconds.
- Rate limits use a one-way hash of your IP address that is kept in memory for at most an hour and never written to disk.
- A session cookie (
tl_session) is set only when you open a form, so the form can be protected against forgery. Ordinary pages set no cookies. - Forms store only what you type. A contact you give on the removal form is encrypted before it is stored, and deleted 90 days after the request is resolved.
There are no ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking scripts. Fonts and scripts are served from TornLife itself.
Asking for removal
Anyone can ask TornLife to hide a page, a forum post, or a number about them. No proof of identity is needed: hiding something is low-risk, so TornLife errs on the side of hiding. A removed page answers "410 Gone" from then on.
The original forum record is kept unchanged in TornLife's private archive (so a mistaken removal can be undone), but a removed item is not shown anywhere on the site, in search, or in anything TornLife generates.
