How does the Halloween event work, and how does the Halloween basket work?

Halloween in Torn is the yearly Trick or Treat event. Players buy a $35 Halloween Basket : Spooky at Sally's Sweet Shop, then attack players to collect treats, which upgrade the basket automatically through tiers and can be exchanged for items or upgrades.[1][2][3]

The event

Trick or Treat is a yearly event in which players attack other players to collect treats and fill a Halloween basket.[1] The event begins at 12:00 TCT. In 2020, baskets went on sale at 12:00 TCT while the event itself began at 14:00 TCT.[1] The Halloween basket event was added in patch list #67 on 30 Oct 2018.[4] Exact end dates and 2025/2026 dates are not in the sources; a 2026 forum guide says Halloween is listed on the sidebar Calendar.[5]

Getting a basket

  • The starting basket, Halloween Basket : Spooky, costs $35 at Sally's Sweet Shop during the event.[2]
  • Stock respawns every five minutes; the wiki's Trick or Treat page says 1,000 baskets each time.[1][2]
  • Only one basket per player, and it is untradable.[2]
  • A basket stays on the account for good and need not be repurchased each year.[1]
  • Once a player holds a higher basket, a new Spooky cannot be bought.[6]

Collecting treats and upgrades

Baskets upgrade automatically as total treats grow.[3] Wearing one scary clothing item boosts treat chance; more than one gives no extra bonus.[7] A scary weapon boosts the chance only when used on the final hit of a fight.[8]

Apocalyptic is the top tier. It is obtained by upgrading a Nightmarish basket with 9,999 treats to begin the end times, and the treats are kept. Its boost is unknown but stated to be under 100%.[15]

Spending treats

  • Without upgrades, treats can be exchanged for items such as Bag of Candy Kisses, Bottle of Beer, Can of Goose Juice and Can of Crocozade; upgrades add more valuable items.[16]
  • Tier I upgrades include I See Dead People (+10% chance in scary clothing, 3 treats) and Here's Johnny (+10% with a scary weapon on the final hit, 5).[17]
  • Multipliers: Doubler (20% chance, 25 treats), Tripler (10%, 50), Quadrupler (5%, 75), Quintupler (1%, 100).[17]
  • Tier II unlocks better candy, alcohol and energy drinks, up to Can of Red Cow (90 treats).[17]
  • Tier III includes Cat in Hell (13 treats), a 1 in 500,000 chance per attack of 1,000 treats, and Save Your Tears (95), +500 happiness per treat exchanged.[17]
  • Tier 1 is unlocked on Spooky, Tier 3 at Shocking, and Tier 4 at Horrifying, after which all upgrades are available.[2][11][13]

Honors and M'aol

  • Three honor bars come from reaching Frightful, Terrifying and Nightmarish.[18]
  • M'aol is an NPC awakened when a player with 9999 treats summons it, along with five Praetorian Guard minions.[19]
  • In 2024 M'aol had 605,000,000 HP, an Aegis Shield blocking 95% of attacks, and went dormant if not defeated within one week. It could not be attacked until its minions were defeated.[20]
  • Loot: 100 random attackers receive loot, including M'aol Armor pieces, a Tentacle relic and 94 Arca Fortunae.[21]

The wiki's 1,000-baskets figure comes from a page captured in 2024. The Spooky page only says every five minutes and notes the original rate was batches of 100 every 15 minutes.[1][2]

Where sources disagree

  • The Trick or Treat page gives 1,000 baskets every five minutes[1]; the Spooky page gives only the five-minute interval and says the original rate was 100 every 15 minutes[2].
