How fed records work

Where the data comes from

Every record starts from Torn's public profile status: the word "Federal", Torn's short description ("In federal jail permanently", "temporarily", "for 6 days") and Torn's reason text. TornLife reads these from player data that already exists; it runs no collector of its own for players. Two points in time exist for most accounts: a snapshot taken 13–28 January 2026, and the live store, where each account is refreshed about every five weeks (2,544,328 accounts). Accounts seen only in January 2026 (501,643) are kept with their January status.

What a record is

A record is one spell of Federal status on one account. If TornLife saw the account change to Federal between two of its observations, the spell has a window: it began after the earlier observation and by the later one (1,517 records). If the account was already Federal the first time TornLife looked, the spell began before that, and the date stays open (151,493 records). When a later observation shows the account no longer Federal, the spell is closed with a release window.

Dates

• Observed window: "between 15 Jan 2026 and 20 Sep 2026" means TornLife saw the status change somewhere in that window. TornLife never draws a single day from a window.
• Last-action bound: an account in federal jail cannot act, so its last action is a lower bound on when it was fedded. TornLife uses it only for spells that are still open, only when it falls inside the window, never for account closures, and shows it only to the month: "between March 2025 and January 2026".
• Exact days appear only when a dated source agrees with Torn's status data. None do at present.
• Durations ("Federal for between 12 and 40 days") are shown only when both the start and the release are each bounded to 45 days or less.

Confidence

• CONFIRMED: TornLife saw the change to Federal and Torn's text.
• PARTIAL: Federal in every observation TornLife has; the start is before its first observation.
• HIGH: the status plus an official or staff source naming the account.
• UNVERIFIED: only community sources. Never published.

Reasons

The only reason TornLife ever states is Torn's own public status text, quoted and attributed as "Torn's public status text". When there is no usable text, the page says "Reason not publicly confirmed." TornLife does not guess reasons and does not repeat forum claims as reasons.

Common texts are grouped into categories by their exact wording, including known abbreviations and typos ("RMT", "Account makred for deletion"). A text is never put in a category because it merely contains a word. Texts that Torn staff wrote as one-offs go to their own category, Unique reasons, and are quoted as written, jokes and insults included. Empty texts and an unfilled "$reason" template are treated as no reason.

Account closures

"Account marked for deletion" is how Torn closes accounts. It is not a punishment. Those accounts are counted separately, never listed, and a profile shows a neutral "Account closed" card.

Forum discussion

The Fedded Archives thread on the Torn forums is community discussion about feddings. TornLife archives it and watches it for new posts, but treats it as speculation: it never supplies a reason, and posts that name an account are linked only by the account's ID.

What TornLife cannot know

• Why an account was fedded, beyond Torn's public text.
• Exact dates for spells that began before January 2026.
• Status changes between two observations: a short fed-and-release inside one five-week gap is invisible.
• Accounts deleted before January 2026.

Lists that name accounts (recently detected, released, the account list of each reason) are kept out of search engines. A player's page never mentions Federal status in its title or description.
