Left side is too dark. Do some intricate yet subtle soft-brushing to really make the cannons come to life. Maybe some splatter brushes would fit as they would compliment his beard. Or else you could always do a texture piece.
You could even do metaballs or something of the sort although it may look off (like a bunch of little cannonballs xD). Tbh your best bet is the soft-brush and textures. (work it as if it were a stock image).
Seems very flat to me, Its definitely got potential but you might need to work on the depth and what Prime said.

Love the second! Light is LIGHT for a reason, so when you add a soft brush near it it looses that realistic effect, just something you may remember in the future. :D
