If you have the required amount of stock to get the 'dividend' pay, and decide to buy more stock than that. Will you also get dividends on the increased amount above the already required stock you have? (hope that made sense) ... In other words, does it benefit a person to have more "dividend earning" stock than is required for the award?

no, you don't get more dividend if you own more of the stock.
The only way to get more out of a stock block is to buy a second one and to give it to a friend that he gives you the cash (ofc careful for scams and such shenanegans)
