We've launched our new competition system, starting off with Easter Eggs.
Competition Tokens
You may have noticed that we now have a 'Competition Tokens' currency. These tokens are given out to people at the end of a competition depending on how they did in comparison to other entrants. I expect all future competitions will use this system.
To enter a competition, you'd usually have to click a button on the competition page or enter a submission. However for this one, you just have to find your first egg. You are then entered, along with everyone else who's also found an egg. From there, your next egg (after entry) will increase your position among all other entrants.
You'll be able to earn between 1 and 10 tokens per competition that you've entered. For example, to get 10 tokens, you'd need to have a better score than 90% of the other entrants. If you're in the bottom 20% - 29%, you'd get 3 tokens.
Token Shop
You'll be able to spend your tokens in the token shop. Currently you can only buy some rare honor bars - but we'll be looking at introducing new rewards in the future.
Future Competitions
All competitions will run for 21 days. From the 5th (00:00:00) to the 25th (23:59:59). With this new system it makes life so much easier for us. Competitions are far easier to create, and they can run automatically at set times every year with minimal developer input.
Our eventual goal is to have one competition every month - but it'll be a while before we achieve that. I expect for now we'll just release them when they're ready.
Easter Eggs
For now, we're just starting off with Easter Eggs. They'll spawn all over Torn: you just have to notice them and click them. By doing this, you'll gain an instant unique reward attributed to each egg, and receive the egg in your inventory. If you collect a whole set of eggs, you can exchange them for some goodies. This is similar to past Easter events - although built from the ground up.
We will be very tough on scripts which aid you in any way. We have a dozen different ways of detecting them, and we'll secretly add penalties that prevent future eggs from spawning for a while. We will never discuss or describe these detection methods, but we will be very carefully monitoring logs to make sure they're only taking care of abusers and not legitimate egg finders! We'll be constantly checking and adapting our detection systems in the background to ensure that it really isn't worth using any external tools at all.
Currently, the spawn rate of eggs is very small, as we're just testing the waters. I expect over the next few days, the rates will be increased and most people will start finding them.
We have carefully tested the system internally, but please treat this as a public beta. There may be problems / issues!
