Known scams?

I've noticed there are always comments to beware of scams but i was wondering if there was/is a forum thread compiling the latest/current scams? I just got hit up today about buying bricks and someone would buy them off of me for 100 each, which sounds suspect. especially when it was sent in a chat message and the person was offline. I know scamming isn't exactly outlawed here, but some newbs like me might find use for such a list. (and not all these newbs have presence of mind to know a scam when they see one.)

Big one is the fhc stock instead of fhc item scam, someone will try to sell you the stock fhc and pass it off as a feathery hotel coupon

Bricks isn't really a scam. You're just selling them without really knowing the game. People sell things to resellers all of the time. You're allowed to buy 100 TC shop items a day. Bricks are the fastest selling, but you can also buy beer, plushies, empty blood bags and pepper spray. All sell way more than you can buy them for, making them great money makers.

I say it's not a scam, because it's pretty much guaranteed income that will not make you a target of mugging for listing items. If you don't have a bazaar, you'll have pay to list each item. Can't remember if it's deducted as you sell the item.

If you don't know the value of an item, look for it on the market. If you sell an item without researching it, or checking the forums for announcements or games changes, it's all on you.

A scam is wanting to buy a billion worth of bricks, start the trade, you put up the billion, the other guy cancels, then mugs you, never intending on trading. A scam is you paying a million for x amount of bricks, and only get 100 with a promise of more tomorrow, and no bricks tomorrow.

A scam is being paid $100 to lose for someone, 4 times in a row.
A scam is convincing you to "invest" millions with huge returns.

There is a great way of telling scam artists. Look at their Friend/Enemy ratio. If their enemies far outnumber their friends, think twice.

Most newbs don't read message boards until it's too late. Newbs also miss the Tutorials and Guides. All written by experienced players giving top notch advice for free.

Ask the Haka faction I managed to scam $3.6b from them easy =D

well the enemy count thing is true, looking at bloods account he has about 5 times more enemies than friends.

im still wondering if the bricks thing could have been a scam. sure its a good way to make money to resell things (its what I am currently doing) and even though i can't pin point it there was just something very "off" about that random request.

After checking the person, they have NO enemies, however i know i myself could resale bricks for more than just 100 per. Looking just now the going rate is 500 per. so i can see how its not really a "scam" per say but it definitely under cuts me a bit.

but i can see you guys have a lot of knowledge on the scam front (i mean of course you do you've been here WAY long than i have)
and even though most "newbs" wouldn't check the forums till its to late, there are others like me, where the first thing i did was start researching and checking forums.
and even if not for us newbs wouldn't it still be benificial to all players (minus the scammers) to have a running list of current scams? maybe put some scammers out of biz at least?

and as a newer player i dont think i would be the best to compile the list myself, unless others came to me to tell me.

but ultimately what is the thoughts on this? seeing as there doesn't seem to be one. would a list of known scams be welcome on the forums?

these people could have spent a long time earning that the honest way and could have even possibly spent real money to enjoy the game more...

Worst kind of scamming are those who play with trust. Work their way into factions and steal hard earned cash. It has ruined the game for loads of players. Scammers are scums.



But it´s not falling for a scam to buy overprices items or selling stuff at a too low price etc. Scams are when someone hide their intentions and wanting to take as much cash from you possible by foul methods. Too bad there isn´t much to do about it other than being extra careful.



Like mentioned above, the FHC stock instead of coupons scam is probably the most common one nowadays.

I'm confused how someone offering to buy your bricks is a scam...

You could get more than 100 dollars a brick from other players, but he's obviously low balling so he can sell for more... That's just trading, not scamming at all.

I don't know what's suspect about it.

And if you got the chat message and he wasn't logged in, it's because you were offline when he sent the chat message to you, not because he magically sent it without being online, it works just like the mailbox, if you chat someone when they are offline, they will get it when they login.

If you agree to a trade its not a scam. Always think before you click on anything.

I have sold millions of bricks for $700-$800 + on my bazaar. Same with other 'junk' as well. You might have to wait a bit to get such a high price though.

You need to look at and inspect every trade, there are a lot of geeks playing this game.

Dont be desperate when selling your stuff and never rush when trading.

Buy your 100 beers or bricks every day but try to get a fair bit more than 100 each for them. That can be a good source of income at your level.

I dont blame them for legalizing scamming. This is a game about gangsterism. In the real world, people all over get f**ked over daily

Before you do business with a player, look to see how many enemies they have. If they have over 100 enemies, that means there's 100 people out there they've angered, possibly by scamming, or possibly by making a trade+mug, or making a large bazaar purchase+mug to get a portion of their money back.
