My topic for discussion is quite simple, What do you think about new players?
I see more and more that new players are bullied rather alot from the moment they step foot in the city.
Whilst I am aware that those who go into Global and beg for cash etc will always be targets, it seems more widespread than that, even people who just speak to ask advice can be given a full set of bounties or put in hospital or flamed.
If this really necessary? Could we do more to help the game grow by supporting these players with advice?
For me, it seems a strange concept to meet all these new players with as many negatives as possible when they sign in, and only hurts the game in the long run when they logout and dont return.
Some people seem to think that i do this sort of thing but i mainly "bully" the loudmouthed ones who come here thinking the world owes them something and mouth off, alot of them do that because they have a 14 day protection period and think by day 14 i will either forget or not be bothered. On occasion i will test a new player to see what sort of makeup he has mentally, alot of them respond negatively which makes them more of a target, but the ones i do test and act decently i usually end up getting to know them and actually helping them. It might make me seem like a douche to some people but i dont want to help every noob and there are some who after a little bit in the game let their mouth write a check their ass cant cash.
As for helping all new players honestly the game helps them enough in my opinion with all the refills, protection etc, so i try to weed through the undeserving ones and the blatant multis and restarts which i would estimate to be higher then 50 percent of new accounts
As a new player many moons ago i was subject to the same sort of hazing and treatment but learned from it and became better because of it, if we spoonfeed and treat every new player wonderfully they just expect it and dont learn from it.
but in all fairness i treat older players the same way
I'm not talking about spoon feeding as that just fuels the fire in global etc
I just see it as a negative for the community as a whole if we push new players back out of the door. There will always be a*****es, but there seems to be a lot of this happening constantly
It has happened this way for over 10 years but might seem more now since back in the days we didnt have all the communication that we have now also their is alot of the new players who are restarts and multis, more then what used to be who do come in with a chip on their shoulder. Granted their are some good new players and those are the ones who end up doing well in this game.
i would also say their is some situations where jealousy or envy are involved when older players who spent years to get descent amount of money or their first pi see a new player owning a p.i. or winning a huge lottery. then their are some straight up idiots.
Torn has always and most likely always will be tough on a new player even if the game gives them so much more then what others got. Hell i remember when i started being in the hospital for bout the first 6 months of the game.
i think bullying new player was a lot more 3-4 ears ago, player would spend days upon days in hospital just for asking a question in the wrong thread, don't get me wrong if your new and only thing that come out of your mouth is give me money give me items, give me money, your not gonna be on people good side, but if your asking for advice on how to play the game, that's a good way to start and people will be more likely to give you maybe a few thousands $$$ Lately I also saw bully having it worst than the new player they are trying to bully, no mather what level they are,

Some of the stories of bullying I seriously wonder if a lack of common sense shown by the bullied is at play.
You can't go into a AA meeting, shout 'THE FIRST ROUND IS ON ME!' and expect a good reception.
Regardless new or old players, I don't think there's much difference in treatment required. Old players also quit with similar reasons.
It's not going to be easy to live in this city so regardless how long you're in the game, there's always areas that you can learn along the way and starting it early might proof better in long run.
Just did a search for players under age 30, at least level 3 and with at least 30 criminal offences. Came back with 45 pages of results, that's 1125 new accounts in the last month that at least tried for a short time... you can hit level 2 or 3 just by doing George's Missions, and if you can't get to 30 crimes then you're not actually playing the game.
I scrolled through the first 20 pages and only found 3 players with bounties, two of which were married to each other. I'm sure the last 25 pages would be similar, so that's maybe 6-10 out of 1125 actual new players with bounties. Under 1%.
I don't see a problem that needs fixing, just a few squeaky wheels asking for grease.
I don't see the issue with new players being bountied. If they put their head down and learn they would be much better off than just begging or asking in the wrong section rather than just reading a few pages worth of tutorials.
As a noob myself, I got eight bounties from one player for no apparent reason. I was just asking questions about companies in globals, and this player unloaded all these bounties. I was "keeping my head down" - this just seems like I'm being specifically targeted.
What I've gathered is you should completely cut off communication in regards to your disgression with the bounties. Just let them waste money even if the individual is very rich the best you can do is just accept it and accept its a game and laugh it off. What I would also do is time my trains, crimes and travelling according to the remaining hospital time and do it so your travelling pays for the additional expenses.
I would also advise you to just stay out of global chat and stick with your faction buddies until you can atleast afford to be bountied consistantly or have good battle stats.
Yes, now that I can travel it's much easier to avoid being hospitalized, as well as to make some money. Since my faction is warring, it might be some time before anyone can claim the bounties :D Thanks for the good advice.
It is much easier to be a new player then it has ever been. Everything is spelled out for them in an 8th grade reading level. Just look at the extensive guides & tutorials experienced players have produced explaining everything an inexperienced player needs to succeed. Even Ched and friends have created graphs and charts for new players to follow and understand market trends. Bounty limits, free energy refills, protection, there is even a chat tab for new players to ask questions..
In my humble opinion one should do some research on the situation before making assumptions based on a few bad stories. A overwhelming majority of legitimate questions are answered in Global. There are very few times that I have seen anyone get bounties just for being a new player. The players that get this kind of treatment tend to draw unwanted attention to themselves and not because of there status in this game.
Let's just be clear, I'm not talking about bounties alone.
A lot of players seem to also be flamed or bullied through their mail and chat boxes by individuals. I have spent my time researching this as I tend to help new players a fair bit and get messages from them telling me how they have this and that happen to them.
This thread isn't about trying to change everyone's opinion on new players or even players who maybe have been here a while but not integrated, but to try and understand the logic in driving these players down into the ground and making them more likely to quit. Which as said above harms the game in the process
