If I were in a custom race and I'd completed, say, 67 of 100 laps and then crash, would I collect the Driver Skill I had obtained up until that point or would I be sent to the hospital and have no gain to Driver Skill?

I would say yes you would gain some driving skill.... but I've never really checked....
