It's there to prevent bots
I suggest going to Preferences->General Settings and switch Preferred validation to numbers...it's way better and I'm not that annoyed by them anymore.

it's not 'every 5 screens' You'll have to authenticate after a set amount of time (I seem to remember it was half an hour or an hour). They are indeed in place to prevent bots.
It's almost every time I go to the Crimes screen
I'm thinking if your IP is not changed it should not be that frequent. Otherwise you're visiting the crime page once every hour.
For me validation happens practically once an hour. I see no problem with this.
It is possible it is a problem specific to you, so talk to staff or file a bug report.
It's annoying as hell, but Torn simply lacks any advanced bot detection methods that could replace it, and this is the simple cost effective solution.

Well, i started playing Torn 10 years ago when i was a college student, i'm a licensed and practicing architect now, i have my own small construction company in real life and build houses and commercial buildings, i also have my own side businesses, all throughout my 10 years of playing Torn, i have had a number of girlfriends, i still live with my parents because i'm Asian, we don't move out until we get married and build our own house for our own family though i have an apartment in the capital city of my country when i worked corporate before opening businesses which i visit when i go to the capital city for breaks.
All other players have their own real life also aside from playing Torn and we all probably give a shit about this game.
Sad times
