so here i am back again looking for guidance with a home entertainment quandary.

my issue: i recently dug out my old nes and n64 usb controllers, so i have been enjoying playing emulators on my lap top. i however think it would be peachy if i could sit in my bedroom, play on my laptop but have my tv mirror my laptop screen. alas i am technologically impaired so here i am.

my setup: i will try to keep it simple so as to avoid talking about speakers and stuff that have nothing to do with this and so i do not get too involved in talking about things i know nothing about. i have a flat screen tv with 2 hdmi ports (honestly not sure of other specs). one hdmi port has a cable box hooked up to it, the other has a 3 way switch currently hooked up to a blue ray player and a roku se. my laptop does have bluetooth capabilities.

i have done some research and found that many rokus are capable of mirroring via bluetooth. sadly, i do not think mine has that feature. the roku se was pretty much a roku 1 that they specially packaged for black friday. i do not think it has bluetooth, but, i can however stream youtube videos from my phone to the tv through the roku through some process i cant understand.

i do not think my tv has wifi, although there is a usb port on it as well as on my cable box (not that i am saying i could just plug in a wifi dongle). i do have a wifi dongle as well as a bluetooth one.

any ideas? suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i did research bluetooth receivers that hook up to hdmi but they all seemed unnecessarily expensive.

Not quite sure how you would achieve wireless if your TV does not have it but...

You dont state what native video outputs the laptop has, so I assume no HDMI there.

If you can live with going wired- I would suggest you look at a USB to HDMI converter for the laptop. This will give you a second display which you should be able to output applications to, these devices also feature a 3.5mm jack so you can route the audio to the TV too.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Suppoert-Graphics-Adapter-Converter-Multi-Display/dp/B00BLKER4I is an example of such hardware, at £25 it does not break the bank either.

Now you just need to get another HDMI male to HDMI male cable.
(unless the USB-to-HDMI adaptor is long enough)

I guess your problem's solved?

you would need to either get a long hdmi cable and run the hdmi cable from your computer to your tv, and then change the source, or you would need to go to bestbuy or another store that would sell a Bluetooth hbmi wireless streamer, then connect that device to your hdmi and connect and stream to that...

VGA? ...most older laptops have that...so do most tv's. You've probably even got a cable hanging around somewhere
