I noticed some forum had said about racing point and how some people accidentally spend his race point on a car and not winning any race to get it back(in other word they are screwed),i suggest that racing point scoring system need to be improve
giving player who got even the last place on the race could get racing point,i suggest using FIA(FIA Formula World Driver's Championships) point scoring system

1st place-8pt
2nd place-6pt
3rd place-4pt
4th place -2pt
5th place-1pt

This is just a suggestion,i don't know how hard to implant this type of system and how much this will affect others
I just leave a suggestion since this is a suggestion box,so forgive me if this type of system is not possible

I'm all for a few points given to struggling racers, maybe give like 5 points if you do not place in a point position for 3 races in a row, so stuck players can become unstuck. These points however should not count towards the amount needed to be earned over a career to go up a class.

But too many points and we might as well just remove the system of Racing points as a part purchase requirement, which I wouldn't be totally against but might mean that literally everyone has a fully upgraded car in lower Racing Classes, removing the advantage of the system in the lower classes anyway.

But with good balance, this would make Racing more accessible while still rewarding better Racers for their skill, or car setups.

bogus. it's fine the way it is. My girl and I started racing about 1 or 2 weeks apart with me starting first. By her 4th race she was making first a lot more than I. Like 4:10 while I was 1:10 She moved up a class 13 races before me. But eventually I kept going, building my racing rank. And now am up a class higher, modded my car to the minimum and get 1st at least 90%. Point is, the ranks and points give a feeling of moving up and working from the bottom. Giving too many people a win just takes that away. I hate that peewee soccer way of playing games. "Everyone gets a trophy". Stupid. Be a winner, earn your trophy. Losers get nothing.

Also, a lot of factors are in place. One big factor is: Are you playing against others who modded their car even a little or a lot and are you getting yourself into races continuously at the times with people who've been racing a lot building up their scores, modding cars, etc? There's no way of telling that unless you know the people you're racing against and still that's kinda up to random chances as it simulates the difference in tracks' physics, wrecks or close wrecks (probably), and just all around randomness. Like I said my girl beat me a lot and I raced against her a lot and my racing score was a full point ahead of her. But maybe while the other racers were too busy almost running into me, which possibly slowed us all down, she was able to get through clear, kinda like when someone in back passes through a close wreck in nascar, getting into the lead. Who knows? What I do know is that this racing game is already an extra and it's a well done extra. No need for all that "Everyone should feel like a winner" b.s.
AshleyT [1432316]

Considering I was stuck at the bottom of A class for over a month before I started actually winning races again, I beg to differ. The whole points system is weird to be fair, it only has a lore explanation in the chronicles but even that is a stretch. I'm a mid class Racer within Class A now, but as a racer of my level, I still think the lower classes heavily discourage modification otherwise you WILL get stuck in Class A.

This won't just help top level Racers get more competition, it will make the lower classes more enjoyable as more people will mod their vehicles as they have confidence to know they will never be completely stuck.
1GLao [1981317]

Like everything else in this game, there's kinda a guide for this. It very much explains how racing isn't going to be fast paced. How it's not meant to be. And how to also move up, when you're able, smartly. like say, finally getting to that first class up, modding with only the minimum mods, never wasting your points. Moving up again, modding with very minimum mods again, etc etc until your last class then you can heavily mod with all your points left over. Also details the best cars for this. So, there is a way to play the game, have fun with a bit of strategy as well. Losing at the beginning? Then play the side races that doesn't give racing points, but does help evolve your racing skills. Everything doesn't have to be so fast leveling. Everyone shouldn't win. There are winners and there are losers. If you're a loser, then try try again. Or quit and be a quitter. But whiners and quitters suck, so why not just keep trying?
AshleyT [1432316]

I am aware of this. And it is detrimental to actually making it as exciting as it should be, even if it is mostly text based. I did keep trying, but it took a month of scraping the bottom of the barrel once I hit Class A even after saving points. That's why people just drop racing once they get the merits. It's simply no fun, and there's almost no variations in what happens in lower class races.

You think I'd have succeeded without being aware of this? The problem is, it is extremely unfriendly to new racers, as well as just straight up boring as literally everyone has a fully upgraded car by the time you finally get established in Class A, everyone knows the best setups, and it all comes down to luck, and what your Racing skill is.

We should be encouraging different mod setups early on, not discouraging them with, let's face it, massive restrictions.
1GLao [1981317]

BUT...but what you explained, is EXACTLY what racing is like. Real life, video games, and this text based. Everyone tries to get the best set up, use a certain strategy, and when it comes down to the last bit...it's all luck. What else could it be that you want? Especially from a side game that's not even connected to Torn as the game it is in itself. To suggest a new game...I'm all for it. However, to suggest modifying this racing game, at least in this way that you're suggesting, there's no point in it. It took you a month in Class A.....so? You kept going and finally started winning and now you're bored. Soooo, you're saying you should've been bored a month earlier? The point of Torn is to "live" a life other than your own. Which is slow, full of obstacles and challenges, with rewards for some things and harsh lessons for other things. The point of racing, just as in real life, is extra shit to do. Which is also full of strategy, customizations, luck when racing different people and different tracks while climbing up in ranks. All that shit takes time. Life, sports, competitive fun...time, skill, luck. All I see in threads like these is someone mad that they can't win faster and/or all the time. Or has that "what about me" attitude like a child who won 5th place." No, kid, you don't get a trophy, or points. You don't win. You lose. You lost. Go train, come back and try again. And shut that bitchy face. No one wants to hear or see that whiny shit." -1GLao
maxim19 [1681530]

what about this, making low class get point even though they lose but after you get in the high class you got nothing for losers.

Butters [34298]

... or you could join a company that has a special which lets you exchange job points for racing points.

Awarding points for racers who do not finish in the top 3 in the lower classes kinda defeats the purpose of having to "earn" your way up to the next class - you might as well change the "points won" requirement to a "races entered" requirement instead.
AshleyT [1432316]

But it's not all luck, a significant amount of skill is involved.

To clarify, it took me longer to reach Class A, but that is not a problem, almost no one else was on a different level. What I'm saying is it took me a month to climb from the bottom of Class A, not winning more than a race every few days, which is only down to the fact, despite all my saved points, I simply did not have enough to upgrade fully and actually compete.

I'm mostly bored due to the lack of new faces in the Racing scene, after long enough in the Class A you start to recognize every other racer because the amount actually there isn't a lot, or doesn't seem like it, and the problem there is you already have a rough idea of who will win. There's no excitement if you are near certain someone else is going to win, especially if they take the lead early.

The thrill of Racing is never knowing who is going to win and the fierce fighting for first place. Torn, once you hit class A, has none of that due to the distinct lack of new faces. And the few new faces that do show up usually don't have the capability to replace lost parts in crashes, meaning they lose more.

Actually, in most Motorsports even last place gains A point. But the points there are not used for upgrades or anything of the sort, you can freely upgrade your car at any time as long as it doesn't break regulation of the sport and you got the money to pay for the parts.

The problem here is not some whiner wanting to win all the time, it's the problem that, for an extremely long time in Class A, you can never win, and the other Classes are boring because all the smart Racers have no upgrades, at all, leading to everyone's setup being the same most of the time.
1GLao [1981317]

Yes the set up will be the same. Because that's how it always is. No matter what game you play. No matter what sport you play. Someone who put out a great strategy will be followed by everyone else who wants to win as well. So EVERYONE else will follow that strategy, therefore being the same. As for Torn not giving out racing points such as professional races....this game is about crime and underhandedness. So it goes to at least imagine that the races are street races with it's rules set. And just as the limit of 150 of Xanax or E for the SSL gym, there is a limit of how many points or something like that. Maybe shoulda eased off on some of those upgrades earlier. Shoulda got those skills up to par first. Like now, I'm in C class as of today. Only took me 3 days in D class, only counting the racing time and not my travels, to reach C class. I did bare minimum upgrades and churned out 1st a lot. This is because I stayed in E class forever before I started winning. My gf who started a week after me made C class 3wks before me. Neither of us upgraded our E cars, so that's just that many more points for the future.

Anyhow, I moved to C class pretty quickly, and instead of going for a quick win, which I don't even know whether I can do or not, I went straight to the custom circuit to gain skills. That's my strategy. Get the skills needed to drive my basic upgraded cars. Saving as many points as I can for the last level. Maybe...MAYBE my high skills plus full upgrades will at least keep me up somewhere close to the top. Maybe..MAYBE that's what those people that continue winning have done. NOT everyone plays this game with that mobile game app mentality, meaning the thought of I should get points just for trying and I have to win win win right now right now right now. If it takes a month...cool. What else is there to do in this game where as I MUST win right now today? What other achievement is there to be had other than to be at the top...unbeatable then be bored cause I'm unbeatable?

Tired of the same old "faces" in races? I don't understand that. Just back out of that race, or join custom races, or create your own custom races, or log in at a different time than you always do. OR encourage others to play the awesome mini-side racing game so that they will come to your level and race them. The game is fine. I don't understand that whole thing about not being able to enlist two of the same cars, but I don't take it that serious enough to care either. And tell you the truth, I do try my best to see this situation the way that you or the thread creator sees it. And what I come up with is, if I were to say the things you've said, it would be because I'm losing a lot, don't like how long I've lost, wish I had more points even though I clearly made a mistake and wasted mine already, and/or just love that feeling of being babied/hand-held/a winner when I don't deserve it.......Seriously not directly insulting you. Really just saying that's the idea and feeling I see when I read the words you have put here. Or anyone else who wants to change the system of points SOLELY because they are out of points or because they can't win fast enough in a game that's designed for longevity. If you step back or had stepped back and realized; There are more than just a handful of people playing this game. You, as in everyone who's reading this, me included, WILL lose. It will take a while to reach a goal. Others are striving for the same goal, so you WILL have to struggle. You do NOT have to win everything or get something for nothing. There are strategies to TRY to be the best however those strategies come from someone who already had trial and error so THAT strategy isn't fool proof and the fact that there was someone before him/her should also show you that there are many people before you. You WON'T be the best. At least not in this game. Just accept it and have fun with what you have. Find another way to occupy your time. Leave then come back for a while, maybe. But there is no reason, at leas the way you suggest, to change the racing game. Now take a look at my forum sig. if you have it turned on
AshleyT [1432316]

The problem is, is that Racing is openly hostile to people who want to use modifications before Class A, is extremely unwelcoming to new Racers, and as such, is a commonly discarded feature to all once the merits are out the way.

You can't just back out because, really, you run into someone you already know every single race after just a few weeks of Racing in Class A.

I can understand hard games that take time, but this just feels like needless padding. The system as it stands openly punishes you for using mods, for if you move up a Class too much without points, you're gonna get stuck there, especially if you crash and lose all your mods.

Custom Races don't give you points to recover from crashes if you use the mods on the cars, so it's out of the question for all but Class A. We should be giving the strugglers a hand, not kicking them while they are down.

While I think the numbers are off with what this guy is asking, a minor pick me up of points to speed up your development or help you recover from a string of losses or even a crash, would make Racing much better, while not giving you something for nothing.

Another possible suggestion is the ability to trade, and wager on custom races, Racing points. This avoids the "Doing nothing and getting my hand held" Mentality you seem to think that we think, while bringing Racing points into Custom Races.
1GLao [1981317]

Once again, it's not about being faster so need for a pick me up of points to speed up your development. And while I understand that wrecks will make one lose points, I personally have had only one wreck in class E. Immediately thought, "Hey, maybe i should get my driving SKILL up to handle this car. Maybe that's what the skill points are for. So I did a healthy dose of custom races sprinkled with a few circuit races. I mean custom race after custom race after custom race. 50 laps, 100 laps, lots of quick 1 lappers. Testing different cars. Once I started picking up to 3rd in Circuit races, I did a LOT more custom races just for good measure. Then I started winning somewhat regularly. FINALLY got to Class D. Bare BARE minimum upgrades. Expected to lose a lot again. Thinking maybe other people upgraded something better than I. And I made quite a bit number 1's. So since I moved up too fast, by my own strategy, I'm gonna sit back in Class C for a good while doing what I did in Class E. Because MAYBE the wreck, my wreck, happened because of my driving skill being low for the class I was in. Kinda like the hunting in S. Africa. Get to a certain point and make better money. In racing, I believe; get to a certain point and reduce wrecking chances. If everyone stopped trying to get through everything so quickly and put in the work, maybe that will prevent the wrecks which cause loss of points. I don't know if that's fact, but c'mon, driving SKILL has to be there for a reason. All I'm hearing about in this thread is about racing points. BUT if we all get more racing points, what's the point of having skills? What's gonna happen, probably, is everyone top up their cars, wreck like the shitty drivers they are, then complain about how long races keep you hosp'd. Then, if they change that, the game is full of people, not training for a race, shorter lobby times (as was suggested in another thread), wrecking all to hell, but still feeling like a winner cause they have a point or two to upgrade other cars to blow the f**k up. Basically, making this game another mobile game. Where everyone click buttons, get coins, win something, lame shit.

NOPE. Just no. Read my sig. if you have it turned on
Butters [34298]

It would make it easier yes, but then you'd be left with even less racing points at the higher levels where you need them.
AshleyT [1432316]

For crying out loud, I said in my first comment, to keep the points earned by this free method OUT of the total earned count, to prevent them being used to go up classes. But it's more of a helping hand I want, not a spoon-feed.
Butters [34298]

Let's just cut to the chase - you want everything about racing made easier based on a questionable assumption that there aren't enough racers out there. It's a consistent theme in every racing thread you respond to and I simply don't agree that it should be made easier or allow players to not have to make choices about which aspects of the game they wish to focus on (that after all is a core principle in this game - choose a path for your torn city career).

I'm actually going to humour you though and join a bunch of organised races (maybe 150-200) to see exactly how many individual players I do see, so that I can more accurately assess your proposition that you see the same faces all the time - I only have what would be considered nowadays to be middling driver skill so in theory I should see a good mix of newer and more experienced racers.

When I'm done I'll share the results with you for comparison.
AshleyT [1432316]

Wouldn't you agree, with all the guides out there, almost no one uses mods in any Class except A, and wouldn't that be bad for variety of gameplay?
Baldr [1847600] Reporter

You do need to save some of your racing points to upgrade cars in the future, in particular when you get to class A.

But it sounds like you are saying that nobody upgrades any cars except their A class car, and that is certainly not correct.

Regardless, I don't see a need for a change. Reaching A class and getting the merits does take some time (like most things in Torn) but isn't particularly difficult. And no matter how bad you screw up, no matter how badly you spend your racing points, if you are well and truly stuck, you can join a company with racing points as a perk and get points to do upgrades that way.
Butters [34298]

I wouldn't - you can still use the points from the previous class to mod your car for the next one and that makes perfect sense, given that you only have a relatively small pool of racing points to earn before moving up to that next class.

Now that I've been thinking about it more I think you're barking up the wrong tree - what is needed is a better matching system, especially in the lower classes, which takes the actual car and its upgrades into account more so that racers without many points invested still have a decent chance of placing in races at least some of the time.
