Books are special untradable items that can be collected and used to provide a substantial specific buff for 31 days. An individual book can only be received and used once, once used you'll never be able to receive or use that particular one again. It is probably worth hanging on to them and waiting for the optimal time to use them.
Books were mainly implemented as a subscriber reward. We felt the current selection was lacking a bit - but we also didn't just want to make all subscribers billionaires by giving them powerful and expensive items. I'm very keen on keeping the 'Pay to Win' very limited, so that's where books come in - a non-tradable, exclusive item type that can be collected or used once, and can't just be sold off for hundreds of millions of dollars.
All current subscribers today have each received a book as a token of our appreciation for their continued long-term commitment. On the 1st of September, they will be added to the regular pool of subscriber rewards and will be received once every two months on average - this rate will slowly decrease depending on the amount of books you already own.
Future subscribers will also be credited with two items (instead of just one) each month.
- a) A book, an enhancer, or another special item.
- b) A supply pack.
If you don't receive a book as a subscriber reward on the first month, the chance of receiving one next month will be increased, and vice versa. Over the long term, this should ensure that all subscribers receive the same rate of books. I.e. If you don't receive one for 3 months in a row, it's quite likely you'll receive one on the 4th and 5th month.
Books will of course also be made available to non-subscribers through rare city finds and mission rewards.They should start appearing next week.
