After reading through a multitude of (potentially outdated) sources, it seemed that apparently networth is calculated in Torn by how much you 'sell back to the system', i.e. sell to shops, but NOT through bazaars, trades, the item market, etc.

However, I never sell to shops, but instead to the item market (I don't have a bazaar of my own though). Even so, every time I sell, my networth goes up. Has the system changed for this to happen, or have I missed something out entirely?

networth is calculated by the value of the items, stocks, properties, etc. that you currently have, I think the sources you're looking at refers to the old system

Your net worth is the amount of money you have/are worth by totalling up the price of all your items, properties, stocks, points and actual liquid cash you have. Selling back to the system increases the amount you can loan from Duke though.

Citizens,

We've totally replaced the old networth system with a brand new one which accurately sums up your entire account's value. This new networth value adds up everything you own with a monetary value, including...

- Items in inventory, display case, bazaar, on the market, and in parcels / presents you own.
- Money on hand, in your bank, vaults, Cayman account, trades, poker games, checks, etc.
- Value of all shares, properties and points you own.
- Value of your company if you are the director.
- Loans and unpaid fees that reduce your networth.

We calculate networth once every 24 hours, and display it on your home page. It is also visible on the hall of fame (with a rank), and graphed for you (and others) on the personal stats page.

The eight old networth awards have been replaced with 14 new ones, though if you'd already attained any of the previous awards, you'll keep them. To achieve the new medals, you'll have to hit and maintain specific networth values for a certain length of time.

We've also adjusted the rank triggers. The new networth will affect your rank, but we've also added a new hidden modifier. People who've already achieved a high rank with the previous networth system will not lose it.

Currently, your networth (only the single value updated once per day), is visible by other players in personal stats and on the hall of fame. We're confident that due to the delay and obscurity of the value, it cannot be used as an informational tool to get an advantage over you.

We feel the future benefits and competition of public networth values outweigh the initial uncomfortable feeling some players may experience. However, if the community dislikes it, we can remove people's networth values from these areas in the future.

Update 26/08/15 - The networth value of items now no longer uses the average weekly sale price, but instead a long term median value. This means more items will have values, changes will be smoother and users won't be able to manipulate weekly prices in order to increase their networth. They will be valued at the median sale price in the past year, as long as there are enough unique sellers to validate accuracy and legitimacy.

Today we also launched a new slicker mechanism for serving pages in a timely manner and with better error handling. This will help us to understand what's happening when users see the floating loading bubbles for ages. It's a pretty big site-wide update so there might be issues. It's caused a few minor problems with PC / Laptop, but we'll be resolving them over the coming days.

Thanks.
