Misconceptions about Islam

recently while I've been browsing the internet I've found a lot of people who've been saying things that I've noticed aren't exactly the most true, so I'm going to try to help with that problem. If you have any questions you'd like me to answer just leave a response and l answer.

Well you can start by debunking the things you think are misinterpreted.

Good idea

One main misconception is that Islam oppresses women. While I do agree that women are oppressed in the Middle East, it is not due to Islam. As proof consider this, at the time Islam was beginning to form, it wasn't to out of place for a family to kill a girl when she was born as having boys were much more wanted as boys were more equipped to work. So when Islam came about it did dim the oppression, as now the oppression is a lot less brutal.



Another misconception I found is that people will isolate phrases to make it seem like the Quran supports violence. A recent example I found was when someone pulled the phrase "Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled." from tawbah 9:29, but what you would have realized from looking at it through context is that this surah was supposedly revealed right before one of the major battles to keep Islam from being destroyed. Making basically one part of a large pep talk.



Those are a few of misconceptions I've noticed recently, if anyone has any questions, please tell me them.

Do you believe if someone was to follow the Quran word for word, letter for letter and lived their life in that way, they would be able to fit in a Western society?

Do modern interpretations of certain passages "dilute" the original content to make it more acceptable in the same way that the has been done for the Bible?

Only the middle east and not do to Islam?

For your first question, i do believe that you could live in modern society but it would be very challenging. When you think about it there are always ways to do what the Quran says while still being allowed small breaks here and there due to the fact that some things are optional and others will kind of be lenient to your situation, such as in the month of Ramadan, you are allowed to skip fasting for how much time you need if you are young, elderly, injured, traveling, or sick. But overall while I do believe that you could do the exact things that the Quran says word by word, I think it would be very challenging and impractical.



For your second question, I'd believe that the modern interpretations may be diluted a little bit. I think this as certain verses are left relatively open ended as to allow the person reading it to understand the main point while allowing a slightly more self taught approach to help you understand it more. Having this approach makes it so that the reader gets a more meaningful understanding, but in turn, it would dilute the meaning as people would put their own spin on it making it fit what they feel it acceptable.

Yep, as the atrocity of the treatment of girls due to what they could do in society. Think of it like this, back then in the Middle East, most people were laborers, meaning boys would have been much more helpful, this would have led to a stigma for having girls as since women didn't really work out of the house back then they would have been just an extra mouth to feed. Which is the main reason girls were treated so badly, because they were virtually useless to the working class. This is what most likely led to the horrible treatment of women.

So when women in my country of the Islamic faith are forced to marry as children or get female circumcision which are both illegal here thats who's fault again ?

Think about this, the leader of these countries, usually kings, are taught to be extremely strict and with their culture, and when that culture tells them "**** women" what do you expect. And for the child marriage, that is arranged marriage, which dates back to the ancient Egyptians, long before Islam, and still takes place in different places in the world, not just he Middle East. And with the circumciusions it's not just women who have to go through it, so do men. And while I do admit that in certain countries, Islam has been corrupted and that a reformation must happen soon in order to changs what is occurring in the name of Islam. What I meant was that at heart, the Quran does not intend for the oppression of people, but it has been an excuse used for it.

Mohammad your prophet himself was a murderer and a person that called for the death of infidels on many levels. A person that kidnapped the wives of the men he killed to keep as his own sex slaves. He also married a 6 year old girl and was having sex with her when she turned 9......... 9 years old...... Let that sink in ........... 1, please feel free to show where you got the sex slave, kidnapper, and murderer story. 2, before you go ranting about how Mohamad married a 9 year old you have to remember a few things. When he married Aisha it was in the 7th century, a time in which the life expectancy for the average person was 20 years old. When you think about that, she would have been in her midlife, a time typically considered the best time to have children, which meant for her time period, she was probably at the right age to marry, or maybe a few years older. And plus when you take stories of the prophet into consideration, it was stated that she was a child prodigy, which makes me think she would have hit puberty early. While this stuff would considered pedophilic and wrong nowadays, back the it probably was the norm. So next time you try to bring up an argument like, you have to check the more background facts to make sure that they support your point.

In that case, for the curcumcision, I'd just assume that the parents are very religious and for the arranged marriage that reason would differ from family to family, but I'd assume it would be done for things such as money, class, or that the other family might also be very religious and that both families want their child to remain religious, or any other benefits that either family might receive.

And you don't condemn it ?

I'm willing to bet there are a lot of things that we see as barbaric that he wont condemn.

Just curious to the OP :

Do you think there should be an additional text written for the modern age for Muslims so there cannot be any misinterpretations promoting violence and mistreating people?

If there was a more universal simplified text maybe this will help people's view of Islam as well for how bheave to some muslims who are incapable of being reasonable ie Qatar.

I don't know much about the Middle East life expectancy but I do know in Anglo Saxon England circa 700AD it was only in the 30s so it's conceivable that what he says regarding 600+ years before that is true. They were both turbulent times with lots of warfare which probably explains a lot of it plus pregnancy at the time was dangerous. A lot of women died in childbirth - around a third. If someone got to 40 they would be looked at as we look at someone of 80+ these days.

So long story short the problem isn't Islam but the Arabs?
