Do you ever just sit back and think?

Not about anything in particular, mostly just listening to thoughts that come and go. Some humbling, some worrying. Often drawing attention to times in the past where you'd ruined relationships, made the wrong decision or simply ruined things all together. It leaves you in a state of regret that you didn't do things differently when you had the chance to. Just like the saying, "you never know how much someone means to you until they're gone," and that is absolutely right. I know that it's pointless thinking about things in the past and staying hung on it because in the end, you can't do anything to change it. Just got to move forward and leave what's behind.

Would i be correct in saying self reflection is healthy? i think so. However when it focuses so heavily on the things i've screwed up it only serves to cripple me mentally.

There's no real direction for this thread, other than expressing my thoughts and feelings. It helps to take the edge off at times. Any thoughts? let me know. Thank you

I think you'd be correct in thinking it healthy, but all things come in moderation.

There's regret, but that should always be tempered by more joyful memories. You can regret the fact you didn't spend as much time with someone you lost. Alternatively, you can remember the times you DID have and cherish those even more.

All in moderation, one day at a time :)

I agree with wavecrest.

There is no point in overthinking things and being a captain hindsight. Just learn from mistakes, I guess.

self reflection is a thing not done often enough, just mind the spirit behind it. it should be used more like a post mortem in stead of a funeral. Bear in mind that "if" is the shortest way to madness

Self reflection is all very well but some ppl take it to far and become completely self absorbed. This in turn can lead to common or garden depression and further on, unhealthly obsessions like drugs guns etc.

If these ppl want help they can get it but most are too busy being self absorbed.

It is entirely good to be self aware, and reflect on one's thoughts, and actions. It simply takes discipline to stay focused, on track and only critical in a constructive way. Anyone can dream up phantoms in the closet, or emotionally self flagellate, then seek escapes that are typically self harming, and simply perpetuate cycles.

Think of neuro linguistic re-programming. Would you intentionally write bad code for a box? Why do you do so for yourself? Simply comment out those lines from the negative sub routines.

Take that one day, or even one hour at a time, and keep at it. Eventually you will have gone through all the source code you inherited from others, and some of your own novice lines, and you will be free to work on other more important projects.
