Hi, we (Relentless, IBB, others?) have recently noticed that we are no longer gaining respect for retaliation hits.

If a change has been made, we would appreciate some clarity. Thank you.

This is perhaps a perfect opportunity to plug this suggestion too, regarding retaliation hits: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=treads&f=4&t=16024764&b=0&a=0

They have in fact stopped registering as retaliations even on the chain report.

This change occurred at roughly 21.40 tct.

iI3uI3I3L3 attacked Proxima (+2,567.04)

Thats a retal, on the wall and with 7 people in the attack...

Our first 2.5k chain was: Best hit 3,796.20

Relentless' earlier 2.5k bonus on us: thelovelymoon attacked Bootycall (+3,830.40)

We'd like to be reimbursed the difference if possible.

Well the 2500 hit was a bloody crappy gain. Unless I saw it I was not believing it.

Seriously ,

Previously it was around 3,800 (Approx)

This time it was 2,567.04

I mean the difference is HUGH.
Somebody [1763067]

I second this. Last night we made a 5 assist wall hit off a retal for the 2.5k bonus on a level 70 and only got 2369 respect. Our previous 2.5k hit yielded close to 3600 respect under similar circumstances. I looked through the logs to verify that it wasn't a double take on the retal. We would also like to be reimbursed for the difference in respect gains for the 2.5k hit and the (upcoming) 5k hit if things aren't sorted out by then.

If this is an issue will all the changes in respect be applied retrospectively? I know we were a fair bit short on some chains this week..

Retals were temporarily disabled due to talk of abuse / exploits. I noticed many people in both factions were avidly taking part in what they thought was an exploit / scheme rather than reporting it - such action can potentially be really detrimental to Torn. It was as if they were trying to make the most out of such an 'exploit' .. "before it was patched" - really disappointing.

Anyway, retals are disabled temporarily as a precaution while we look into the effect of carefully tuned 'collaboration' in chains. I want future real / serious wars to have the highest respect gain advantage rather than farming / collaboration - which won't be possible if there's no more room to expand respect gains, we need to decide how to achieve this.

Retals will likely be enabled again soon with adjusted parameters.

The problem with this is, what can you do to prevent someone replicating a real war, into detail? As that's what's happening here, to some extent, real wars wouldn't give less, they would give the same amount of respect.

I wouldn't call this an exploit per se(not as much as farming the same retal anyway? Which was fixed), it's just simulating a what would be competitive war by using a territory war. I don't think as of now these can really be stopped, as there's no alternative at the moment, Though when competitive warring releases people will just stop doing this and do their competitive wars instead, no?

Perhaps it's being viewed from the wrong angle. If the future warring systems are supposed to give more respect than the current one, why not just lower the territory multiplier to x1.75 instead of x2.

Wouldn't specifically making retaliation hits strip a larger percentage of a chain hit discourage it from being used in the way that it isn't intended? In a normal hit I don't see that it would be that bad since the respect base is so much lower, but if on a bonus hit it stripped 20% extra of the respect it earned [number suggested just a filler], that would be likely enough that factions wouldn't willingly allow others to put a bonus hit on them that was a retaliation hit.

The only thing that I see as a draw back is, that on the higher chains this could lead to much easier than intended faction destruction if factions are careless about who they attack while they are being chained.

Chedburn heres an easy fix: Add cooldown to retals...Like if you took a retal on someone there will be 60 minutes cooldown before that person wil give retal bonus again...

Anyway, you really didnt thought about people from different factions teaming up to make max benefit of the retal bonus? No exploit is being used only the current system is being used to the max like it was supposed to be.
Td3h [1785428]

Its neither abuse nor an exploit. It's using systems exactly like they were intended to be used. Just like using every available multiplier in order to achieve a bonus is not a bug abuse.

The result may need to be adjusted - but thats the reason why 100k chains werent rolled out from the beginning anyways.
Somebody [1763067]

The whole point of retaliation is, "you hit us, we hit you *right* back". There's a bonus for noticing the attack and retaliating within a short window. A cooldown would be something very unusual to add to a retal hit.
BlickyTheRipper [1997379]

In my view it would be to only way to prevent people from teaming up and exchanging hits to benefit retal bonus respect to the max. If you adjust the respect gain this will still happen. So if Ched wants to prevent people from using this "exploit" a cooldown is the best, other option would to keep retal bonus respect removed.

Btw the cooldown is for individual player only, so you can still get retal bonus respect from other players. this way you could also still "exploit" it but only if you work very closely together with an other faction and have people on a rotation to get hit for the retal.
