What do you think about the current stat gain system? I'm new to this game and for me it seems like a really long term thing should it be changed or is it good?

Torn is a long term game, it takes years to get good stats.

And changing it is a massive slap in the face to the players that have been playing for years.

Strap yourself in, bucko. You're in for a helluva ride. At 3 days in, you will have barely touched any of the game mechanics. Look around at the players that have been here for years. If you have the patience to play a little day by day, the rewards will soon come flying your way.

It is good. The game is designed to be played long term. It does not reset everything 6 months like some games. Just be patient your stats will get there.

Torn is a never ending game. If it's demotivating to you, I would recommend comparing yourself and competing with people of your age/level, rather than trying to shoot for #1 immediately.

Anyone can become #1, I expect in not too long Bodybagger will finally have some competition again - from some fresher players than himself, too.

Use your mind and play effectively. Read everything you can, analyze every mechanic and figure out how to get ahead. That's how you get on top.

See swatsicle's post - it will be good competition for you to find a fellow new player to have some friendly competition with.

There are plenty of guides for new players in the Tutorials & Guides subforum. They will help start you off strong in the game and keep it up, you will be fine!

Torn is a long term game - think marathon, not sprint! :)

It's good, don't think you need lots of stats to do well in the game.

I mean, lot's of stats is nice and a good thing to aim for, but you don't need them to have fun in the game and be a fully participating player.

I found a faction mate when I started who was at the same age as I was.  We have been friendly competition for each other.  We are pretty close stats wise but he did overtake me.  It's still fun keeping after each other.

Thank you guys for the posts and information. I will for sure keep playing Torn as it seems fun to have by your side during a long period. Have a good day/night everyone!

You can be fast as f.. still catch up with bb is almost impossible unless he stops playing. Don`t be  illusion BB will stay in top at least for next 5 years. If you eat 4 se each day to mach his number you will need more that 3 years and it would be 1,8b daily habit.

Make a friend who is more experienced than you. You'll learn how to train at each level, not wasted your time/money/energy, etc.

Someone in your faction would be best. Find a big brother/sister.

The system is fine, it doesn't need to be changed. There are people who have played this game for longer than a decade, changing it to make it faster for noobs would only cause outrage. Torn is a long term game, so of course it's slow, the people who have huge stats have worked at them over time for a long time.

There are ways to make it quicker for you, all it takes is some reading. http://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=threads&f=61&t=15993234&b=0&a=0

Stat gains start real slow. Then they get real fast. Then you hit the stat cap and feel totally awesome. Then, after you've gone well beyond that, you start realizing that you've doubled your strength, yet your damage has only slightly increased. You double your speed but still miss, double defence/dexterity and still take/receive damage. At that point you start asking yourself "just how much more do I need to make any kind of difference?" Then you start looking at stat enhancers to gain epic amounts of stats but then realize the sheer enormity of the base value of stats and cash you need to justify pursuing them.

I'd say that the stat-gain system here is actually quite good. You get to a point where beating people with significantly less stats isn't guaranteed. Now, depending on your merit spending, stat balance and temporary weapon usage, you can hugely swing a given battle into your favor. I guess what I'm saying is you get to a point where huge stats isn't enough and you gotta use your brain a bit.
