anyone know how to extract image or icon from .dat file?

Depends on the application and purpose.

.DAT is somewhat common and can be different things. An actual file would help as would more details about the file.

Try opening it in text editor. Where did it come from and what all is in it? Opening it depends on those things

it's from a game, i've tried open it using text editor but all i got was a bunch of raw hex.

Size of file?

What exact icon/image are you looking for ? What makes you so sure it is located in this file?

And yeah .... notepad usually gives crap like that, and takes forever to open if its a big file, if to big potentially freeze up the system till a reboot.

It's an old MMORPG, the official server already closed. Right now we only play in private server. I'm not quite sure if i can say the game name here tho.

I'm looking for a in-game item icon/image, i've been googling about it couple of times and i found this website that can read raw hex data and it have the option to search certain string (maybe, i'm not really got at this things), bottom line on that website (forgot the website name) it said that inside the raw hex data there's an .ico file.
