What are the pros to joining a company? I was looking at the medical career line once I got enough intelligence points but was wondering if id be better served in a company and if so if there were any particular ones I should look into.

The pros can vary depending on which company you join. But at a young age with low work stats you will be limited in your choices.
A Company Director that offers 'free' rotating trains can increase your work stats faster than a City Job.
The benefits of completing the City Jobs ARE important enough not to ignore.

You can get trains to gain stats faster, but many companies won't accept low stat players. I personally would recommend staying in a starter job for a little bit, then see if any companies will accept you.
As for which companies to go into... It depends on what you're looking to do in Torn. Here is a link to all of the companies and the details of each one: https://www.torn.com/wiki/Companies. Take into consideration what the stat requirements are, the stat gains for the positions, and the benefits offered by the company.
The Torn jobs have a few advantages that company jobs do not, especially for new players.
1) There are no minimum stat requirements for grocer, casino and army. You can start these jobs on your first day in Torn. Medical, Education and Law all have minimum stat requirements that can be met by working the other three jobs and/or taking education courses.
2) You do not need to worry about a director kicking you out of your job if you're away from the game for a while or if you take too many drugs.
3) In a Torn job, you are not dependent upon a director to be active and maintain the company.
4) Three of the Torn jobs -- Medical, Education and Law -- give you a special "perk" at the highest level that you take with you after you leave the job. There is no equivalent "permanent" perk for any company jobs.
5) Two of the jobs -- Army and Medical -- have a merit that can only be earned in these jobs. The only "near" equivalent is earning the happiness merit by working in a sweet shop (though there are other ways to get this merit).
Some players choose to go to a Company as soon as possible and then come back and do the Torn jobs later for the special perks and merits. However, most players do eventually complete one or more of the Torn job sets. All Torn revivers must work at the Torn job for Medical up to the level of Brain Surgeon in order to be able to revive other players. (Once they reach this level, they can go to another job and keep the reviving capability).
Everything this guy said was spot on. I would just like to add that getting the principal passive from the education job is a great investment in your Torn career especially early on because it will save you a lot of time overall in getting through your education courses. Personally I would recommend joining 1* or 2* (the asterisk is how we designate how many stars a company has, so a 3 star company would be 3*) and trying to get some trains then going back to the jobs. But like this guy said a lot of ways to do it. best of luck to you.
