Polygamy

How many of you are chasing a marriage merit but feel alone because your one-time long-time has switched to the inactive side?
How many of you have so much love to give that one person isn't enough and want a harem?
How many of you just want to be different?
How many of you like collections of things?

None of those apply to me but here goes.

Idea: Allow someone to marry more than one person.

What other changes should be done to support this?

• Create a new "spouse" chat box
• Create a new title "Polygamist" for those that lead in the ranks of how many people they're married to
• Limit the number of people who can move into a house to just 2 (because you don't want the sister-wives/ brother-husbands to fight, but also to nerf anyone from having a hundred people squatting in one PI!)

More practical background - this idea spawned from someone who was frustrated that they lived in a fully-staffed PI and couldn't upgrade a Castle for rent without firing/hiring all the staff. If they had an active spouse, the spouse could have done it for them.

The other benefit (good or bad) is that those chasing their marriage merits can still keep going for that and get a fresh young thing to split on a PI.

But it has to work both ways: polyandry and polygamy, otherwise it isn't fair.

I think polygamy encompasses both multiple men and women whereas polyandry is specific to a woman chaining down her multiple husbands.

In order for this to work you'd need a few small downsides I think. For a start you'd need to limit access to vault space, unless you had spouses in more than one property. Each property that had more than two spouses in it would suffer a small happy loss. What about having to hire extra staff to maybe mitegate the loss.

The possibilities are endless. Soon we'd be talking of implimenting a faith system to add another level to polygamy, possibly one that would maintain faith levels by utilising praying!

Kind of defeats the purpose of the commitment merits for marriage then doesn't it?

The idea of those merits is for being committed to a single person.

This seems like a small 3 person faction idea to me.

The idea of marriage is a union of 2. 3 is just a two pair with a side piece. If you're lonely, that's where you make the decision of what's more important to you: a friend to live with, or marriage merits to an inactive.

Cant have your cake n eat it too. Pick one.

Allow polygamy.

To make it interesting: all 3 people have to consent for this to happen.
To make it more interesting: you cant have a group of more than 3. for eg if me and my spouse get one more person, then that person or me or my spouse can not be the 2nd spouse of anyone else.

To make it even more interesting there is no limit to the amount of people you can marry. Another extra interesting thing would be. For every extra married person the merit takes less days, since your combined marriage days count. Married to 5 people at the same time, You will only need 400 days together for the 2000 days merit. BUT if one person divorces, you all lose the count.

We will create MASSIVE wedding days where 1000 people will jion in the same mariage for 2 days to get the merit and hope nobody cancels on the last minute as a joke.

There used to be a bug where... I think if your spouse divorced you, you could re-marry the same day and it continued to count upwards, not 100% sure on how exactly it worked even though it happened to me.
