There are a few benefits of being married.
The first is merits. You get merits for being married for a certain amount of time. The first one is at 75 days of being married to one specific person the whole time.
The second benefit is free stuff, cheap stuff, and free or cheap living in their property.
The third, and last thing is someone to keep you company, ask/answer questions, help you with things, check out your forums, etc.

In the case of the third thing then I think technically we are married. LOL JK. But I do have a legitimate question about that. Can a guy marry another guy in this game?
