click on your current profile image >> click on upload new image >>click choose image>> select the image on your computer you wish to use and click "open" (bottom right corner of the pop up box and tick the profile image circle>> click upload image

Yes will work for gifs.... right click on the gif you want and save image to your comp, then follow the procedure posted above.
