I have spent more points than needed on my mini and moved up to class D. Is there any point upgrading it further? For custom races or maxed and using it in higher classes?

dont upgrade it further. Ideally you spend the points you gained the moment you move up a class. Once you reach class A you need about 266 to upgrade a class a car fully.
In class A there is a minimum of 4 fully upgraded cars necessary. So upgrading lower classes cars can be done after that

One day you may want to put class A upgrades on your classic mini. If/when that day comes, you will have so much fun doing it!
