Are those people real and died in real life?
Yes.

I don't really understand, can I have an example?
OP is talking about the fallen players, you can find it on the city page. It lists players who played and then passed IRL so they have been listed as fallen.
What if the player doesnt know anyone on Torn irl...how does anyone know they passed?
.
They don't. Eerie thought that some of the inactives we hit for chaining and mugging may actually be people that have passed away.
Unless the player knows they might pass away soon, because of disease, major surgery, or even suicide, and they tell that to other players.
Edit: or as noted above

I found out in another game that Mousea had died.
Word @ Frank
I think the page of Fallen Players is the most respectful thing I have seen on an Internet game. Considering the time and resources, some of these players have given to the game, having a spot for Memorials is a class act.
A place where the players that knew and played with the fallen can view to always keep their friends in their thoughts.
And a place where those just starting can visit and realize the efforts put in by those that came before us.

Well said. Agreed 100%
