Long story short, how are races determined? Does driver skill matter?

A couple friends of mine and I did some custom races. The first race we did was in our own E class cars (2 same, 1 different car) and it was super close and we could kind of make out where our cars were strong and weak at (braking, accelerating, and straights). So, we decided to all race un-upgraded honda civics. My skill level is 1.15 (I know, newb) and another's was 3 something. Anyway, it wasn't clear that driver skill made a difference.

the difference is bigger on longer races.

On 100 lap races you will get a much clearer view and it will show the higher ds racers will get overall better results

Yes to what prezze said.

Also 1or 2 racing skill difference is not very large, so you wouldn't see a big impact from that small difference. There probably needs to be a 5 or 10+ difference to really see results affected on a regular basis.

There is at least one racer with over 70 skill, so skill differences can be pretty large at times.

I believe RD's theory is = it is 1/3 Driving Skill, 1/3 Car (upgrades and car experience), 1/3 RNG (luck factor). I have no idea if this is accurate or not, but it could be and he has put in 1000's of hours testing and thinking about it all. Some people buy into the car experience idea and other veteran racers do not. Upgrade your cars to 266 or 260 and pick the appropriate car for whichever track you are dealt and hope for the best is my approach.
