So I kinda think about it off and on, never decided to post about it cause it seems like it would take TORN 5 years to make it happen even if the entire community was behind it, so this is kind of a suggestion but mostly still just an idea. Maybe something will come of it who knows but I would like to know what others think of it. It would definitely create a massive sink for items that have to much volume and get traded around more like stocks then for any real use. It will also create an additional money sink when those items are bought and consumed by the upgrades, helping keep the inflation rates down i'd assume.

Territory Upgrading

How it would work is simple, in a faction under the territory panel the leader can select any territory they control displaying 2 different options. Create defensive structures or create sentry turret(s) buffing the defending factions defense and strength respectively. Both upgrade types could be applied to the same territory but would need to be built one at a time.

Initial creation for any upgrade is cheap, like if you were just establishing chokepoints, cheap and easy to build mobile roadblocks, maybe a rifle or machine gun mounted with ancient infrared tracking technology.... you know, radioshack stuff (minus the weapon :P) Point is you start with the basics and over time make your systems more and more sophisticated. So you couldn't just get everything you need for a level 10 upgrade, you have to slowly build it up. Also want to keep in mind this is a PER territory upgrade, not upgrading them all at one time. In addition, you would only be able to do one type of upgrade at a time and have to complete that upgrade before you can start another one. Any cancellation of an upgrade will result in the resources being lost.

I also have some ideas to make the upgrades require more unique items that have not been implemented in TORN yet but i'm going to keep this as simple as I can.

Create defensive structures (Defense)

Each upgrade would provides +1% defense to anyone joining a wall on the defending team. If your not on the wall you do not receive the bonus, it's only effective towards the defending faction and members on it.

The cost of the upgrade would be modified by the size and
density of the territory and whether or not it's a landmark with a value of (x2.00) being 100% cost rate. So a small territory with just (x1.00) bonus to its size and (x2.00) to density would cost half what I have listed. If it's also (x1.00) to density it would cost one quarter the amount. On the flipside, if it's a (x3.00) to size and density it would cost 4 times as much, and 6x as much if it's a landmark.

If a territory is taken by force by the attacking faction the upgrade level gets reduced by 2-4 levels randomly. If the territory is abandoned it will lose no upgrade level at all.

Create sentry turret(s) (Strength)

Each upgrade would provides +1% strength to anyone joining a wall on the defending team. If your not on the wall you do not receive the bonus, it's only effective towards the defending faction and members on it just like defensive structures.

The cost of the upgrade would be modified by the size and density of the territory and whether or not it's a landmark just like defensive structures.

If a territory is taken by the attacking faction the upgrade level gets reduced by 2-4 levels randomly. If the territory is abandoned it will lose no upgrade level at all, again, just like defensive structures.

The time to fully upgrade 17 territories would take 1,581 days (4 years 124 days), and that's if you never lose a territory from an attack, so no way a super rich and powerful faction could just buy everything up that they need and become established in the area overnight. The real point is for factions to choose what territories are the most vulnerable or what ones offer the biggest strategic advantage and apply these upgrades to just a few key territories.

Before anyone blows up on me over this idea in case you hate it, there are a few things I want to remind anyone reading this of. This is really only an idea. If it happens to catch any traction at all and i get some good improvement or tweaking ideas then I would work on it more to get things just right, but if all i get is a bunch of people telling me the idea is shit then I honestly would have no problem just graveing it. I would love to see it happen, I think it would be a lot of fun and force a much higher in depth analysis (strategy) of what territories attackers choose to go for. I also think it would really boost the economy in areas of the market that don't see much traffic. What i'm really posting this for is just to get some feedback on it. I tried to take many aspects into account, just to name a few...

If everyone tries to upgrade at one time (very possible) how will it affect prices for these items in the short and long term?

Does TORN even produce these items at a rate that would allow the upgrades to be sustainable?

Would the destruction of upgrades and number of people making it to the max upgrade level wipe out these markets till there was nothing left?

How long would it take for everything to balance out, and when it did would there be enough items left over for smaller fractions to benefit?

If you made it all the way to the end and actually read the entire thing, thank you. I know it was a bit long for a suggestion / idea and I look forward to your feedback :)

Edit: Cut the requirements for bricks in half so to not have such an immediate effect on markets (advice posted by MightyGoober [812478])

Just a note. Faction has up to 100 members who can buy up to 100 items from shop. So if every1 bought 100 brick in 1 day they get 10k of them. Therefore just add 1 more 0 to mats
Steel_Rain [2034675]
Shop adds only 1k at a time come to think of it, and it restockes every 15 min. That's only 96k bricks produced per day, if the entire top 100 HOF faction plopped down a lvl 1 def upgrade that's 25k bricks right there, and that's just the top 100 plus the requirements go up from there. even though everyone in a faction could grab 100 on a normal day under these conditions they would be gone in a heartbeat every 15 min.
Kamikaze-Mory [2345028]
True.
Then lets look at this point, we add new building materials and bricks cost is increased by 50% what it is from current 250
Like new building mat for wall: concrete block what can be found or sold overseas.
We can always add stuff into the game while integrating old items.

Also OP mentioned :
If everyone tries to upgrade at one time (very possible) how will it affect prices for these items in the short and long term?

How many bricks do we have on market..... Its effective way to use them and reset market/balance it to new updates.
96k a day in a day with huge stock what we have atm it will balance out oneday.

To be honest i was expecting more replies on such organized, game changer suggestion regardless the idea itself. So i hope this post bumbs this thread just enough to courage people to comment and share their opinions.
