I don't own this game however am intrigued by it mainly as me and a few others are looking for a open player survival game on PS4
However my concerns are that with the age of this game, how active is it now on the PS platform? Would it be pointless to get it if the player base is now minimal or could 2/4 players still have a good run on it?
Any insight would be helpful as £40 on an unplayable game to me would be a waste
If you've got a mid range to decent PC I would suggest buying it on Steam while its on sale. Bohemia regularly has sales anywhere from 25-50% off plus if you buy it on PC there are loads of MODs that make the game last longer/ custom servers like role playing or PVE. I know the game was tough to run for higher rigs back when it was in alpha but I think they've optimized the game to be stable on lower settings if you don't have a beefy PC.
I've never played the console version so not really sure how it is gameplay wise for ps4 sadly

I'd say watch some twitch streamers play it. The game has, atleast for PC, been in early access for what seems like decades. I have an xbox and I've spent a lot of time hoovering over the buy button. I'm staying away from it mostly because BR and survival games on console just dont work well imo due to controllers simply not having the same functionality as a keyboard and mouse when it comes to inventory management. Also playing full price for a game this old that isn't complete doesn't sit well with me.
Im sure theres a player base but I'd be more than willing to bet 75-85% is PC.
For what it's worth before I got my laptop I had been waiting for a legit survival game to come out and I'm still waiting. You and you're mates might give Ark a try if you havent.
