I'm a fairly new player and have seen guides on most subjects but the awareness part is severely lacking.
Can some experienced player compile an awareness guide with statiscics comparing daily city find / dump search between 0/10 and 10/10 awareness merit trait.
Also add information about the effect of stacking bonuses like 70% increase from Zoo job and the book that increases by 3500% if they end up stacking 3500+70 or 36x1.7
So is anyone up for the task or maybe sitting on a similar guide already please respond.
The problem with monitoring awareness is that findings are basically skewed towards IRL luck. There are plenty of reports/logs by players regarding their finds in GD (including ones where they maxed out awareness with job + book) with results ranging from really goods finds with 1 or 2 Stat enhancers and really, really poor results with best item being senet piece.
My new friend who's been playing for 2 weeks with no merits in awareness found a parachute this morning....Myself with maxed merits at most find a energy can now and then, once found a cesium. All about luck
If Torn's item finding RNG is similar to most games, then there is not really any way to calculate how often you'd find items or how good their quality is.
They'd throw the chance of finding items in the city through an RNG, which would determine whether an item spawns or not. This is probably done every day. The bonuses from the Zoo, merits and book would increase the probability of an item spawning, but that's all it does. You might not find any items for a month, or you could find items every day.
For the quality of items, the awareness bonuses would not affect that, as it only affects the chance of finding items. There would be a list of potential items you could find, and the game would choose the item from that list at random. If they haven't implemented anything to stop you from finding high quality items frequently, then there is a chance you could find two boxing gloves in two days.
To sum it up, awareness is the probability of an item spawning and does not affect the quality of the item.
Searching the dump yields a 100% chance of finding an item, and like the city, the game would choose that item at random from all the items in the dump.
This could be correct, but it may not be correct; this is based off of my city finding experiences of finding 2 stat enhancers within 9 months and having crap finds the rest of the time, and my basic knowledge of computer science. Hope it helps :)
7/10 awareness has been pretty good. 2 years having given 4 SEs. Plus various other crap. 7/10 also supposedly gives 70% of the bang of 10/10 while also only costing 55-27 = 28 merits.
I can't speak of the awareness effects, but i'd like to note that spending either 5/10 or 7/10, depending on how many total merits you have, gives the best bang for your buck in most merit upgrades
Based on awareness event, it's a garbage for me And awareness affect city find, not dump Also shouldn't build your game based on luck. Not in finance at least. Because it's never about how much you make, all about how you spend your wealth (Rich dad, poor dad book)
I had 10/10 for a full year and got some nice find like stat enhancers and other cool-ish stuff. Ironically after resetting to zero I found an Egyptian Amulet in the first few weeks after the reset. It really is based on pure luck.
Awareness sucks. City finds are random, with most items found being inexpensive items. It's just luck, and even with maximum awareness, it's still just luck. You can not plan on making a living in Torn based on city finds. Spend your merit upgrades on something useful instead. May the odds be ever in your favor - but don't count on it.
Yes they are random and luck based in short term, if this was a sprint game it would be a hit or miss utilizing awareness, but this is a marathon game. The question is how high the true value of awareness is. With time periods of several years the luck factor will become greatly reduced and more of an average yield will be in effect.
Your guides are awesome baldr but saying that awareness sucks without showing any data to back it up feels a bit odd. I wonder how awareness compares to bank interest merit for a new player such as myself as they both try to achieve the same goal of (somewhat) passive income.
The value is so low that nobody has taken the time to quantify it. I would max out awareness if I was using the awareness book, and I have maxed it out during awareness weeks both times I've played through it (and gotten basically nothing out of it) only because I already planned on using the Christmas reset immediately afterwards, but otherwise I would much rather have the merit points in just about anything else.
Also bank interest isn't particularly good either until you actually have a good amount of money in the bank. I'd recommend education, along with whatever other merits benefit what you want to do (fighting, extra life, nerve, crime exp).
Search forum: finder keeper It gives idea about how random it is. Or go look back in general forum during awareness weeks. Many people posted their results there.
