I've read that ownership of a faction will be passed down to the co-leader if the faction leader is inactive for at least 30 days.. question is, what if there's no set co-leader? Does the faction stay with the leader?

Longest serving player online within the last 24 hours
It used to go to the longest serving still active member, I don't know whether that's still the case though, as some of these processes have been streamlined in the past.
Thirty days and Co-leader takes over, or the longest serving active member.
If you plan on going away for 30+ days but don't trust the coleader or your longest active members the best option you have is to get a irl friend make an account and hold the faction for you or kick everyone in the faction, you'd be troubling your members by not being there for them when they need you anyways so no point destroying your member's gameplay.
