Im interested in opinions on what would be a good gaming laptop?

For me the biggest factor is a strong metal chassis, since my brother broke 2 Dell gaming laptops by simply lifting them and applying too much pressure to the under side. Mac users will gloat about this, but for Windows you can go for Razer or Alienware.

These are great brands but with an extreme premium price tag. But they also have the best screens and best cooling methods, as well as the best processor, ram, graphics, wifi, etc.

The second biggest factor for me is screen. I. Hate. Bezels. and i love OLED there's no better brightness. colour reproduction, contrast, or picture clarity for me. A nice looking picture means far more to me than extreme FPS.

Every experienced laptop gamer will know FPS = heat and loud fan noises.

This is very good in your spec picture and i would be very happy to use this.
Personally, I don't love the 17" size thing cause it impacts the portability. But if you know what you want, then go for it my friend!

I chose 15" razer blade with OLED, so i could watch it on flights and trains, but also use it to live stream events i'm involved in, and play some RTX games on the side (LOL). I regularly take my laptop to the front room and watch downloaded movies with the family. Gotta have that high spec to output 2160p x265 HEVC video files.

Considering i got it for about 1300€ about 3 years ago, it was a quite decent deal. So far 3 years gone and not a single issue with it, same as i never had any issue with any Asus (laptop or phone) I've gotten, and it has been a few between myself and my wife.

It is noise when you push for it, but that's about it. No issues with heating though, and not even using a cooler. And up until this point i can run everything that is out there (as you can attest by my steam library), given that not all in 4k, but then again, 4k in a 15'' inch screen is basically a pointless exercise.

If its a gaming laptop like mine or the one you posted the specs of, you should not have heating issues. When you get a performance compact laptop with a decent graphic card, then you get heating issues.

That said, i got a laptop because i needed it for work and didn't really want to spend much upgrading my desktop (that i had no were to place still as it was right after i swapped houses) and my laptop at the same time, so chose just one.

If you don't need mobility, then always go for the desktop, the same specs will give you a better performance and for a cheaper price. If you do need mobility than a decent gaming laptop is a great compromise, but with 17'' i fear for your back. Mine with the charger alone is above 4kg plus all the crap i place in the backpack, that one will probably be even heavier.

At least: Core i5 9th gen / Ryzen 5 3rd gen, 8gb of RAM >= 2400MHz speed, any Graphic card >= 4gb VRAM, SSD for windows is a must, doesn't matter if laptop or desktop because I use external monitor with external mouse + keyboard anyway.

Yes I use my laptop like a flat horizontal tower, come at me. (when it's time to sell it, it looks spanking new, I'm a f**king genius!)

Also in some cases, a laptop can be cheaper than a self built PC, because manufacturers buy windows and components in bulk, with coin miners these days buying CPU or GPU in retail is not a wise choice, at least where I am, you also don't have to worry about cooling system, and most importantly: drivers, everything is calculated and tested, between a traditional PC and a brand name gaming laptop from ASUS, MSI, Razer and stuffs, I would go for the laptop.
