i don't think that anybody knows what praying really does, but i assume it has some effect.

My go to argument on this, and I’m my own experience I never found multiple items in one day before I started praying a couple of times a day. Now, I still go some days without finds - but I also get days with 2 or 3 items as well.
Praying has the same effect in torn as it does in real life.

I pray in the city before i head to bed and i have a random 5 E left, and I think I've gone up to the donate 100m merit. Not sure if thats helped me with better city finds but I did win the jackpot/slots.. so just to throw you off the trail it may of had an effect there xD

There is speculation that taking drugs harms your luck stat, and that praying helps restore it.
No evidence AFAIK, just speculation.

the item +10% is for the merit I think, reduces days needed to pray in a row
