Current situation:
We're trapped with an overly complex text-based interface that gives us links to many pages we don't use often.
Suggestions:
#1
Give us about 5 customizable hotlinks in our TORN menu that can allow us to rapidly access any page we want, without having to resort to bookmarks. The configuration for this would also include a pageview statistic so you can see the most commonly used pages in the last day, in the last week, and in the last month.
For instance, the Item Market requires multiple clicks to access, but with this change we could make it into a single click.
On the other hand, one notion might be: why not simply use bookmarks? Bookmarks don't transfer between devices unless you're using a browser account system and some of us would prefer to be light with our digital footprint. Adding a hotlinking system would increase our digital footprint, but it'd also be directly integrated into TORN, allowing us to finely control our data if we choose to make use of it.
Moreover, it'd also add to the statistical gathering ability of TORN administrators, allowing them to see which pages are most used and the most common user activities.
#2
This would, of course, create clutter, so it might be good if we could minimize parts of our interface, for example, if the hot-links are preferred to the areas section, we could compress the sections so all we see is Information, Hotlinks, and Lists.
Moreover, it might be useful if we could modify our interface views, for instance, we could temporarily disable sections under areas that we don't use often. For instance, I don't use Hall of Fame or Recruit Citizens much, and it just clutters up my interface.
Making it so that you could have a three-step interface minimization (none, highlights only, and full) might help with that. The underlying idea is basically the channel list in Discord, where users can minimize the category, hiding its contents entirely, hide channels within the list, or maximize the category showing all channels within the category.
Edit: Another advantage of the second suggestion might be to reduce moderator workload on casino bans. Some players may have a compulsive gambling issue, but they might not want to impose a hard casino ban through the moderation system. In this case, they could simply disable the viewing of casino in their area bar to reduce temptation.
The second suggestion might also completely supersede the first suggestion.
