I logged in a few moments ago and my faction chat was dated from back in december. I did not screenshot before i posted in chat so i dont have the exact date but all our chat is gone from then until now.

It is due to client side caching issue. You perhaps haven't used the said browser for a while and haven't cleared the browser cache. In such cases, sending a message forces a fresh pull of cache and corrects the chat box.
