On 5/35 I received notice of a deposit from the bank. But due to death in family I didnt log in for a while. Where would the money go> It was a sizable investment.

"Once the investment period is up, you can choose to leave your money sitting there safely until you are ready to withdraw it."
If it was money you invested, it's still in the bank.
"Auction sales, failed auction bids and lottery winnings will all be given to you in the form of cashier’s checks which you can withdraw from the bank within 24 hours of being credited before they are automatically credited to your account."
Or if you got a check from one of those sources the money got added to your wallet after 24 hours.

From memory, it eventually gets added to your cash balance manually. Which means it may or may not have been mugged since then.
However, I do remember it was changed. But I can't remember if it was changed so it would go into your inventory after x amount of time, or it wouldn't. You should be able to check received cheques and withdrawn cheques to see what happened with your money :)

This was your last investment, you haven't invested the money in the bank since then:
You invested this money in Shares, you can sell your shares to liquidate the money, they would be still visible on the new stock page:
