It’s when a faction does multiple (sometimes 25,000) attacks to build respect.
This link will explain in great detail. But to some it up as long as an attack is made by a faction every 5mins the chain continues. As the chain goes on the respect multiples builds and the faction gets bonus respect for certain “milestones” such as 100 and 250.

Start a chain: 10 hits within 5min.
After 10 hits a timer of 5 min will start. It will count down to 0 and someone in you faction need to kill someone before it hits 0. When someone hit it automatically starts over from 5 min.
You gain more and more respect after each "bonus hits" but that's overkill if you only want to know what a chain is.
You chain because the faction gets respect and the faction can unlock more perks for all members.

chaining at age 12? Think my first was around age 1500, then again there were no ways to hide money and muggings were merciless. So staying completely invisible to other players was the best option. Could hardly join a faction much less post on the forum. And no age 15 protection either.
