I think the newspaper should write a weekly or daily "market news" that gives sentimental of the stocks movement.
some news that might or might not impact the stock market.
Like certain airline reports quartetly lost. blah blah. or guugle ceo got stuck in a traffic jam and gonna miss an important meeting with yuhoo. or some oil spills that cause the tissue paper prices to rocket, becus people uses tissue paper to soak up the oil. etc etc.
edit: so much better than knowing i can buy bounties. i dont think i need to read the newspaper to know i can do that.
Unfortunately that would take a hell of a long time to do every week, let alone every day. I've also noticed that the only thing the community seems to dislike more than advertisement articles are those that are heavy on role play. I don't doubt that these would be fun to read, but I'm not sure they'd be worth the time when most players will probably just look at the stocks page rather than reading a stocks rundown in the paper.
I do occasionally mention stocks in the Market Report though. Because the item market is so broad and dense people seem to find it quite useful. We'll definitely be mentioning the new stock in this month's report though, and hopefully another stocks related article that looks into the popularity of each stock shortly after.
