I beat the 2nd E.M.M.I and did my first boss fight. We got Aeion abilities in this game idk wtf Aeion energy is. I guess they just never explain it lmao. Small things like that are really ticking me off about this metroid which is supposed to be the finale of the 2D saga.

The E.M.M.I fights are just me respawning (suuuper convenient tho ngl) and trying to get it right until i don't die. But there's not really any "DREAD" there it's a dumb auto-death mechanic and the CONTROLS ARE f**kED HOLY SHIT the custom aim thing theoretically should make this game a piece of cake instead of having just diagonals, up, and side ways, and having to manouver the character around the screen to line up shots. The custom aim thing should be broken, but instead it's f**ked, and makes stuff like precise targeting in quick time events a f**king annoying and boring trial and error chore.

Waited 19 years cos the team wanted to get the dread part right, and it's this stupid f**king poorly implemented gimmick. QTE's were huge ever since shadow of the colossus and god of war on PS2, they're still working great in all kinds of adventure action games. Dunno why it's gotta be this shitty oversensitive aiming thing. The game is already super baby easy with the melee attacks (??????) as it is.

I guess if I had a 3DS and played the super metroid remake with these features, I would've had lower expectations coming into DREAD.

That said; the game is super f**king shiny, the environments and backgrounds and shit are what you wished was in every metroid game. And the regular gameplay is a breeze, the baby noob melee mechanics and monster interactions are clean and fun.

Before reading this thread I was wondering if Metroid Dread was really a £50 game. That was the case when I thought the game was actually going to be top of it's class. After reading this though, it becomes apparent that it probably isn't.

Metroid Prime 4 though...

I used the nintendo online store digital voucher, they're 80 odd quid and can redeem 2 games from a selection that includes all the big ticket games like Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Splatoon, etc. so you save 20 quid over 2 games.

Having put 15 hours into Metroid DREAD now, I've beaten the latter EMMIs with minimal disruption. Really enjoying everything apart from bosses which are still a case of trial and error. The attempts end about a minute on average, about 15 minutes per boss till I get it right. For me that's extremely frustrating, doing something very nearly correct over and over. As opposed to long drawn out boss battles with multiple health bars which aren't a joy, but you don't fail so much. The certainty of failing a boss first time is super unappealing to me lol. I checked with other fans on discord and apparently the previous game on 3DS with similar features had even harder more frustrating bosses, and even worse aiming.

This is definitely gonna be a favourite for young gamers who will revere it as top of its class. I'd say very nearly top of it's class.
I'll need to replay Metroid Other M to confirm that there's no question that I enjoyed those bosses more, but the platforming less.
