I've been playing almost 2 years and have not spent much time trying to understand the map...a bit (less than 30min), but not much. I've been in at least one faction where we had a racket (is that how it works?) and it resulted in adding some cans to the inventory. At one point another faction took the racket - it was kinda fun i guess even though we lost our source of income.
But the point i'm making is i don't really know how the map works and it seems i don't need to.
What if to replace the racket system, factions were able to fight over possession of different categories of the item market (or other areas of torn casino etc) (eg Melee Weapon, Primary Weapon, Drugs......etc). The controlling faction is able to set a tax rate (up to a limit) for their category.
I think the direct impact faction wars could have on the prices of things could be fun...i mean, lets assume worst case the taxes are set to the cap, factions would still have to consider the cost/benefit of fighting for a category, even if they only own it for a limited time.
Maybe there is no tax limit and in order to maintain/increase to a tax rate, a faction needs to earn a certain amount of respect (during that period of holding). This would result in higher energy burn for high taxes (in order to earn the respect to maintain the tax). This would allow other factions to take advantage of the holding factions weakened (low energy) state and fight for possession of the category.
