Increased Bread Knife's base weapon damage from 19 to 41
^from this week’s patch notes.
This means means that you’ll also get a larger percent damage from laceration. Does this make the bread knife actually a comparable melee weapon in battle?
Breadknife was fun to use with smoke/flash while attacking, its also imo was the easiest to build weapon exp, literally 1 25k chain or heck less. haven't tested the buff yet, and personally i don't like torn attacking system turning into a card game, the plain and simple attacking mechanics before demo et-al was added was nice.
Before you all go rush to buy one... let me remind you of the huge drawbacks with the Breadknife:
1.) Laceration cannot lower life below 1hp. (Dex whores can take a laceration and keep fighting at 1hp if they can avoid being hit; this effectively makes the Laceration useless against them at low life.)
2.) Laceration doesn't proc at 100%. It's roughly 35% - 50% and on positive damage hits only.
3.) The Bread Knife is a melee weapon and thus cannot receive +5% critical hit chance from a laser nor any accuracy boosts from weapon mods.
4.) The Bread Knife is a melee weapon and thus cannot receive +40% damage from IN ammo.
5.) With the exception of using a target to heal off of via Gas Station cauterize, it's always better to do damage up front and end a fight as soon as possible to avoid any return damage and enemy temp grenades.
6.) The Breadknife is fairly rare and expensive due to its collector value. Several players would be better served using a diamond bladed knife + 10 dumbbells vs. paying +$4.5b for a Breadknife.
Bread Knife for helping your faction get retals when you know you're going to lose a defend, or helping a factionmate get fair fight bonus / win a mission, etc.
Posion Umbrella for defense whore Turtling. (If you can lower their Str 25%, you can bump your defense:strength ratio high enough to go full mitigation.)
Sledgehammer for mugs. One hit kills = king for mugging.
Handbag with dual smoke / dual sero for wall defending.
Bread knives are my favorite melee by far, even before the buff I considered them an OP weapon, now even more so. Same people I can slaughter with just a bread knife, I can barely damage with a poison umbrella. To each their own I guess, but I hiiiiiighly suggest everyone with a bread knife keeps it or doesn't price it for under 6b, I think it's worth closer to 10b (unpopular opinion I know)
I've seen a couple attack logs from faction members, and yeah, they are loving the change. Definitely looks much better than before, but then again, you still have to hit to get laceration to take affect, and if you miss a couple slashes, that's thousands of damage lost compared to a normal melee weapon. Plus the Enemy will be firing back with a likely better weapon as well.
So is it OP? I'd say not. I think the buff was needed.
