Anonymous messaging

Hello all.


I just wanted advice from some of you more experienced players as to how to find someone who is impersonating me. In the last 24 hours I have received multiple messages from random players accusing me of attacking them. (Please see messages below)

DOS: bot sure who or why it’s happening

^these are just a small amount of messages from the many I’ve received


Now I rarely attack anyone who is active. Usually I’d attack people who are inactive. I’ve not attacked anyone who is active for atleast a week.


Does anyone have any advice as to how I can find the person sending this messages to people? It’s not the end of the world if not as they’re only sending messages to lower stat players bar 1 or 2 players.

I don't think this is classed as impersonation because they aren't really pretending to be you, just sending out a fake attack log. I imagine staff won't be able to help you but even if they can they definitely wouldn't tell you who had been sending them, they'd just get a warning.

It looks like they’re attacking these people anonymously then sending them anonymous mails claiming it’s me. Is that technically not impersonating?

I feel sorry for the people getting attacked to be honest, they’ve done nothing wrong.

Technically this isn't impersonating you, it's accusing you of attacking the victims, with the anon guy here claiming to just be a random person who found out about it ("he [DOS] is saying," "you should add them to your enemy list"). So this is lying and accusing you of something you didn't do, but the guy isn't actually pretending to be you.

Not sure what staff will think though.

It's a shit thing to do but I don't think it's the same as impersonating, which I think would be more if they were pretending the messages were actually from you

I've had this message from someone before claiming it was someone else, it was a while ago. Certainly not a new thing.

No. It's trolling for sure. Hardly impersonation tho.

Even if it was, they aren't gaining anything by doing so. I'm pretty sure the impersonation rule only holds value if they player is attempting to gain from the act. By attacking people and claiming it was you, they aren't actually gaining anything from it. So it should fall under the legal category unfortunately.

To be accurate, they are gaining something, they're putting more enemies on someone they want enemies on. I would still agree it likely won't fall under impersonation however.

Mate, I receiving like 5 messages an hour from different people claiming I’ve attacked them.. even from level 100s who know they’d destroy me. It’s kind of funny when you think about it haha

The hospitalized message isn't even the right one... That's the message the person who was hospitalized would see, not what DOS would be sharing.

Makes it seem like they are just copying the message from when DOS hospitalized them to other people. Maybe that helps you narrow down who it is. Maybe you claimed a bounty from some salty oyster.

You make a very good point. The last person I hospitalised was ActionSquid 10 days ago according to my factions attack record.
