I popped ecstacy and happiness doubled 8400 then started to eat lollipops and my happiness reset back down to 4500. I made mistake, should have eat lolipops first but resetting happiness never used to happen before when done this way. Is this a bug or an intended mechanic?

Happiness resets at the 15minutes mark.
Unfortunately it seems you did your happy thing too close to the mark.

Happiness above max resets to its max value at every xx:00, xx:15, xx:30 and xx:45 mark. You took the Ecstacy at xx:29 mark, had the higher happiness for a few seconds before losing it. Next time around, ensure that you start the whole process right after the 15 mins tick so that you get full 15 mins to setup and train.
