I recently started a faction with my friends, but because we are relatively new we still sell losses, is this bad for our factions respect??

No. Losses do not lose respect. However, energy spent for losses is not energy spent on attacking, which does gain respect. So your faction's growth will be stunted to a certain extent if you keep selling losses. I'd advise you to join an established faction here.
join an established faction, even a 1-2m respect one is better
