A tutor would watch you play and tell you what you are doing wrong and why it is wrong? Almost everyone will not be able to change the way they play even after receiving the best advice in the world. I have read the ideas in the link above many times and still do not incorporate them into my game correctly. So the people that can change they don't need a tutor they learn by themselves. The rest of us we are doomed to fail over and over again. That is why poker is so great even if you are terrible you will go on a winning streak sooner or later.
So do this simple test to find out if you can actually change the way you play poker.
Preflop : Raise or Fold ONLY Challenge Details
You're going to play your next 3 sessions with NO PREFLOP CALLING:

Preflop : Raise or Fold ONLY Challenge Details
You're going to play your next 3 sessions with NO PREFLOP CALLING:
- NO CALLING in any position.
- No limping – your hand/position/opponents don't matter.
- No calling open-raises – 3bet or fold versus open-raises only.
- No defending blinds with a call – yep, you have to fold or 3bet with your set-mining hands and suited connectors.
- No open-raise/call 3bet – even if you think you're ahead with your 99 vs his A5s… fold or get aggressive with a 4bet!
- No 3bet/call 4bet – before 3bet bluffing, know he can fold. Before 3betting for value, know what you'll do if he 4bets (so put 'em on a range).
- It is OKAY to check in the big blind.
- ONE exception to the rule (there's always one): you can call their all-in shove (you can't reraise, but you don't want to fold).
It might be hard to find a fulltime tutor, but maybe try posting a hand or two here - how it unfolded, the decisions you made and why, and be open to critique. (No one likes to have their mistakes explained to them, except maybe me.)
Read books. Hit sites. Especially forums. Learn learn learn. Torn poker is a weird beast - it's not real money, but torn players value their stacks more than if it were completely fake, limitless play money (like on Poker Stars for example.)
Here's a start. Go learn about the following concepts:
- Position. Probably the single most important concept in all kinds of poker. Learn what it is and how it affects the hands you decide to play and how you decide to play them.
- Which starting hands prefer a large number of opponents and which prefer few opponents
- The importance of being first into a pot, and what it means / accomplishes / helps with
- The difference between hands you simply call with before the flop vs. hands you raise with.
- What constitutes a great hand, good hand, mediocre, and terrible hand on the flop. I'd say the vast majority of mistakes I see players make in Torn poker is on the flop. (Specifically, choosing to continue to play the hand for inappropriately large sums of $$.)
If you can internalize the above 4-5 points, which takes time and effort, you'll have a really solid base to work off of. Good luck!
P.S. Torn doesn't have very detailed poker logs - if you decide to post a hand, try hard to remember as many details as possible.
