Depends on where you plant them, the faster you get card details from a location the more likely is your skimmer to get found. With gas station being slowest and safest one.

Here is a great guide that will help you with your skimming endeavors. Also if you are failing too often I recommend doing other, easier crimes first to build up crime exp.

also leaving them and collecting with a higher number of cards on them gets u a much higher crime skill gain. I picked one up with 980 card details on it and i got over 10 skill in skimming. took me from low 40 to mid 50

I have faction mates that have their gas stations still going from when the crime came out. So long as you are active a few times a day, they literally almost never get found.

Would be good interesting to see how many days the most ppl have collected. Theoretically it might be possible to level from CS level 0 to 100. That would be crazy.
