We are implementing a minor update to the rules that merits your attention.
Following the successful implementation of specific guidelines in Trading Post, we have monitored other areas of Torn and made the decision to extend them to other trading and advertising sections. This expansion includes Faction Recruitment, Company Discussion, Company Recruitment, Attacking, Stock Market, Properties, and Graphics forums.
The rules currently in place in the Trading Post forum will now formally apply to these boards as well. The guidelines outlined in the aforementioned post will be universally adopted across these boards. Any relevant updates will be detailed there.
Furthermore, we are updating our overall advertising guidelines. We will no longer permit players to offer services that advertise on behalf of others in the forums and trade chats. This ban includes services that sell bumps or post advertisements on behalf of others. This does not apply to smaller actions such as seeking immediate revives for other players, or advertising for your own faction/company if you are a direct member, employee or significant shareholder of a business/service, players posting "review bumps" of services is also fine. Newspaper advertising is exempt from these new restrictions.
This guideline is primarily aimed at eliminating services dedicated to advertising and bumping for unrelated third parties. We want to prevent scenarios where bump or advertisement limits can be circumvented or where the only active users in trading platforms are third-party advertisers, undermining the purpose of an active trading area.
We have updated the advertising section of the Rules page with these changes, also adding a clause against buying/selling karma. While this has always been prohibited, it is now formally documented.
Our staff will monitor for any violations of these updated guidelines. Initial enforcement will consist of reminders rather than punitive action to allow users to familiarize themselves with the changes, however, repeat offenders will be addressed according to our moderation standards.
