upon clicking the validation link, it takes me to torn.com
No captcha or anything on landing on the home page.
Returning to the faction page prompts to click the validation link again.

Well it fixed itself after 25 minutes :/
I'm not sure whatever is causing the validation failures, but can we please handle the error better than this. I get messages and/or complaints daily about how it's not working, the user has no clue how to fix this and the link does nothing.
Preferably either fix the link in the error message, or tell the user what to do to fix it.
"Validation is required" is incredibly vague and the average user won't know how to solve this.
It is a known issue.
Clearing the cookies should resolve the issue for you OP, if you are still facing this issue.
