A question that may have been asked a thousand times but I cannot find the proper answer by seraching.... so here it goes....

Does simply equping a RW weapon activate it's bonus?

For example:

I have a gun with 18% Expose but I like to attack with melee.

Is the expose active or do I have to shoot the weapon first?

Again: noob question, but english is not my primary languague so I may be searching with the wrong terms.

I personally can't confirm everything as I have not dug into the nitty gritty data of weapon bonus's but this thread has a lot of detailed discussion on a lot on a lot of weapons including expose. But no, idle weapons not being used do not apply that bonus.

"It's a flat additive % damage increase changing which body part you hit. Every % of expose increases your damage by 2.16%"

No the bonus will only work when the weapon on it is used. Ie if you have expose on your primary, using a melee will not apply expose.

To add, the only exception (outside of indirect effects like stat drops, irradiate, or stuff that procs at the end of the turn like bleed or paralyze) is eviscerate, where you can apply it and all further effects will do extra damage, no matter the source, until the target is hosp'd or it wears off

No, the crit chance is only for that weapon.  To parry you need to melee too.  Things you can use with other items are things like motivation eviscerate or something that lowers enemy %stat like weakness or wither.  But all of that needs to be done with that weapon first..  unless the target had been eviscerated in a previous fight but I think you see what I'm saying.  Unless it modifies a target/self it only works when that item is used.

If you eviscerate motivate or lower their stats all that stuff changes their screen when applied in the fight and things are like that for so long like pepper spray.   But if your gun only adds 70% quickness...you likely won't miss with that gun, but nothing else going to change.

The expose perk is applied as you use the weapon with the expose perk. It affects each hit with that weapon. It does not affect any hits with any other weapons.  Some buffs and debuffs are applied to your opponent, like weaken, wither, eviscerate etc, and then they affect that person's stats for the duration of the relevant timer.

From what my Teachers have Taught me, @Qfiffle and @Knirt :

  • Parry, Quicken, and Expose are all examples of weapon-specific effects.

  • These buffs require the active use of the specific weapon to be applied and maintained.

  • Switching to a different weapon will cause these buffs to cease.

  • Opponent-based debuffs like Weaken, Wither, and Eviscerate do require initial application through a successful hit with a weapon.

  • Once applied, these debuffs continue to affect the opponent for a specific duration, regardless of whether you switch weapons.

  • There are visual indicators on the opponent's character screen to inform players about active debuffs.

My understanding is correct? Thanks for your time. (sorry, trying to make sure I got this right)

This would be correct.

To go a little more in depth on debuffs. Debuff's once applied will last the whole fight, if the target survives and you lose, and you med out, you can even attack them again and the debuffs will still be there. Debuffs will carry over to other fights if your defender is also offensively making attacks (like in ranked wars), they'll be debuffed in their own attacks as well.

They will either expire when the timer runs out, or they go to the hospital.

The same holds true for buffs to yourself that carry a timer, such as motivation. You'll get motivated, the timer starts, and you'll be motivated (up to 5x) until the timer runs out, even in further attacks, or when you go to the hospital.
