Hovering over the company icon shows i have 17 points. Going into the company shows that i have 5 points. How many points do i actually have?

You have 5 points. The one on the icon hover is a script feature which could be wrong. The native icon doesn’t tell you the job points (nor the remaining time of your new employee status). Try disabling your Torn related scripts.
The thing in the icon tooltip is TornTools, not Torn. Report it to them, and only report bugs in this forum once you have tested with all modifications turned off.
This is not a native Torn feature, you can check with the developers of the extension.
