Can anyone explain how I took so much damage from a person that is 2 days old and only level 4? I probably just don't understand this game but it feels like this is a bit weird. If anyone can explain how this works or if there's something I'm not seeing I would appreciate it because I would like to be able to do that much damage with one hit.

Level has little correlation with someones ability to fight you. That mostly comes down to their battle stats and loadout.

 

They most likely have trained in the gym more than you and are stronger. The scimitar they used also has much higher base stats than a crowbar and they hit a critical spot on your body wear as you just hit a regular body part. Just keep training and eventually youll get strong enough to beat them.

EDIT: for the original poster, DrGratz44... you can find the job point data in the player's personal stats window, bottom of the window, 3rd tab from the left (with the suitcase icon).

There is also an element of luck (RNG) as well.

You hit him on the foot, which is always low damage. He hit you in the head which is usually higher damage and often a critical hit (but not this time). You both have low health because you are new players, so one lucky hit can win the fight. But don't discount the other information that you are getting, it all counts toward what is happening in a fight.

This is incorrect.  Headshots are always critical hits, you just can't see the critical hit icon because it's replaced with the trophy icon (which has higher priority, like how RW weapon perks do) since it was the winning hit of the fight
